Which backsplash tile?

I want to do handmade Moroccan tile and I’ve narrowed it to two.

The darker one matches the countertops almost exactly and has some warmth. It’s not a dark color at all but it looks more grey since the backsplash area is shadowed by the cabinetry. The benefits are that it has warmth and ties really well into the counter top color and the fireplace in the living room. The disadvantage is that it might be a bit dark, not let the counter top stand alone, be more of a contrast with the white cabinetry than a lighter more seamless color.

The lighter color has a nice contrast but I wonder if it’s might be too cool? However I seem to see a lot of slightly cooler backsplashes with warmer cabinetry these days? The lightness of it is really pretty.

I actually like the white brick look you already have. lol The dark matches but is too drab and moody for my taste. The lighter does not look right either.

Yes maybe neither is quite right. I’m wanting a warm tone that is lighter and tonal. The current backsplash is painted with limewash and the sealer hasn’t worked very well so every time splatters get on it I have to repaint it. So I’m looking for something to replace it.

Darn it, Autumn! I had forgotten that I liked a tile by Jeffrey Court, but it was in the Atlas collection in the Riverwash color. I just emailed them about a sample. I really like the tile you show above and it would probably look great with the soft white cabinets. Regarding the cabinets, my debate was between the arctic white and polar white. I chose the polar white because I wanted "white white" and the arctic was a little too stark for me and the polar was still white without looking cream. It's funny how different colors look differently in each person's house. And I love the idea of doing a dark perimeter counter. I went back and forth about that forever! What counters are you thinking about so far? mom2sulu, we had our floors refinished about 5 years ago because of some water damage from a leak in the water line of our fridge. So we did not have them redone with the kitchen remodel. They are oak. As for the color, the floor guy used min wax stainÃ¢ÂÂ¦he mixed some red mahogany with the dark walnut color. I really wanted it stained darker but he HIGHLY recommended not going any darker (for what reason I don't know). I still wish it was a tad darker and maybe a little less red.

Granite Backsplash with Tile BS or just Tile Backsplash???

My granite supplier advised using tile from the granite up (no granite back splash). She could have advised the other way and made a little more money, so I think she advised based on her honest opinion. I also like the "no granite back splash" look better. Just guessing, I'd say the only reason to use the 4" granite back splash would be if you weren't going to use any other back splash at all (a more low-budget option, in my opinion).

Hi Katie, Demo starts tomorrow, so no pics on progress yet, but I'll post when I have some. I'm working a little bit with a KD, and doing the rest myself with cabinetmaker. KD suggested open shelving like in the inspiration pic (but in stainless, specifically). I think it would stress me out though, lol! Having all of my bottles and stuff right out there (the range area is the focal point to basically my whole downstairs living area). My pantry rarely looks fabulous, and I'd be moving the pantry out into the open. So, I think we'll be making the vertical column things on either side of the mantel style range area into pull-out shelves for sheet pans, spices, small bottles, etc. I considered the open shelving with a pretty display of white bowls and dishes, but then I'd lose the storage space for the stuff I really need at my fingertips. I wanted to follow up to share what I did in the end. I did use white, and really like how it turned out. I did use the nickel hardware. It was difficult to find copper hardware that matched the sink. The nickel goes nicely with the SS appliances, IMO.

These are inspiration photos - 3 of them have the same counter top as I do (mont Blanc quartzite) with the same paint color, hardware. The lighter tile is the same color (or extremely close- I have samples of that one too and it’s basically the same exact color). They look great in the photos but somehow not quite the same in my lighting…. But this is the look I’m going for.

Both look a little dingy. Your second photo looks very white. Go that way. I want to see something a little higher style like a whiter tile that goes with the cabinets but in chevron pattern. It will make a nice backdrop for all your off-white accessories.

I think the lighter one is too cool and clashes. But the darker is just meh. I would keep looking. I think a larger size or a square would be nice

i'd pick the darker tile w a lighter grout than the color of the tile .

if the sheen is about like this: [first pic] , I think it will be great....and 2nd pic shows lighter grout lifts the feel when the tile is in a gray family. Your cabs have detail / the simple color tile blending w counter is all you need..... and the tile has nice characteristics.
