Frameless Shower Door Won’t Close

We inherited a frameless shower door with the house we bought and it doesn’t close. There are no hinges so can’t adjust it back into place. The previous owners glued a magnet which didn’t look or work great. Anyone have a solution for this? Thank you!

One guess would be that they installed it a little off the vertical and have tried to compensate by adjusting the hinge spring tension high to keep it closed. Accordingly, as time goes by, the tension decreases a little and it opens. Just a guess, but you can check it with a level - should be prefectly vertical. If it's off they need to reinstall it proprerly!

We used an ID to do our master bath remodel several years ago and she ordered our door from her trusted source....a glass place....I do remember her saying not to order these doors from HD or Lowes because of the glass they use. I would think all frameless would look more or less the same. Have you been to the shop to see an example of what you will be getting. Sounds like this is a reputable company...I would go with them and call it a day.

lubricating vertical seal strip on a frameless shower door

WD40 is a scented Stoddard solvent I am told. Unsure if would discolor or damage the seal strip. I use FDA grade colorless silicone grease.... works great. This should be available in your local hardware store.

Thank you. I seem to recall the installers mention something about this being a common issue and they literally travel hours to a client site for the cost of a service call and all it is, is an adjustment they make with a small Allen key (ish) tool. I haven't figured it out myself though. If I don't find any help here, I guess we'll be calling the installers back.

If you can’t get info on who installed the glass, get a shower glass installer - glass company - out to look at it. You’ll pay for repair but there has to be a fix. Something slipped out or slid somewhere in the door swing mechanism. Curious why this was’t ID’d as a problem to fix when house inspected - before closing…..

Yeah, those are pivots, something had to have slipped. I would also recommend getting a local glass shop in to have a look.
