SW Dover White-Anybody?
Comments (10)For years, I had SW dover white on the walls in my entry way and hallway, with white trim. It was fine. There was enough contrast between the white and dover to see they were different colors--but not very much contrast. The color in the pic posted above looks a bit creamier on my monitor than the dover looked in my house. I do like the dover white for trim and have it on most of the trim in my house. However, in my kitchen I have dover white cabinets with plain white trim. I thought the dover white in my entry and hall was a bit boring, but it was okay as the rest of my house had a lot of color. I picked it because I didn't like the color that we had originally picked, and the painters were on a tight schedule, so I told them to just paint it off white--they picked the dover white. Anyway, I now have a very light tan on the walls, with the dover on the trim and I like it much better. For me personally, the houzz pic is too blah--and I would worry about some of the whites looking dinghy. But, you have lots of color elsewhere, so it may be a nice break. However, I find when I try to do something different, just to be different--I am not happy--unless its in a guest room or bath where I don't spend lots of time. Good luck! I can post a pic of where my dover white cabinets meet white trim if you want....See MoreHelp with Paint color. Thinking of using SW Dover White
Comments (5)Cailin, thank you for this response. Yes, the Dover White appears to be really showing its yellow undertones on some of the walls I have placed samples. You are correct about the 70's ranch not having great natural light! We are removing the wall between the LR and Kitchen to let light in and create a feeling of space. The house (LR window) is South/ East facing - kitchen in the back. My floors are hardwood in all rooms but Kitchen (I will be matching the kitchen with same flooring). Typical natural narrow oak wood found in most brick ranches in that era. Also, we want to paint the exterior brick a darker gray, deep charcoal shutters and we currently have a blue door (SW Briny - it may be too intense). We are going for a cross between cottage/farmhouse with a slight nod to industrial (legs on table, some shelving using pipes). My husband loves the white upper/gray lower kitchen cabinets seen on so many of the Fixer Upper shows. I might want to branch out and try a darker blue base. I like the picture you posted. What color gray is the island? The lighter colors you posted are nice and all look like warm tones - am I correct? I am concerned that the color I choose for the walls does not turn "murky". I had considered Revere Pewter but heard it could turn murky with less light. I have to find colors for walls, trim, doors, upper and lower cabinets. Feels like a daunting job to me....See MoreOn kitchen reno - SW antique white & SW dover white work together?
Comments (8)Oooo, I'd be careful as marble countertops don't looove overly creamy colours, and Antique White is CONSIDERABLY creamy - I wouldn't do it (I consult on this stuff all the time). Dover White is also a bit too yellow for the bit more yellow-orange look of Antique White and IS too yellow for your marble. The whole combo is making me nervous! Sometimes, what we want and what our home wants are 2 different things and between your trim/walls, I'm not feeling the marble at all - I'm sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear!...See MoreKitchen Cabinets: Alabaster, Pure White or Dover White
Comments (4)Am I correct that the Alabaster will look a little brighter in satin sheen? It could. There is no hard and fast rule about how sheen affects color. Depends on the color and different people perceive it differently. So, you really need to get a sample from the painter of his version of Alabaster in whatever product he's using and go from there. I would opt for the Alabaster option first because it's the easier option, more consistent option and you like how it renders in your space. ETA: make sure you like how his Alabaster goes with your Dover White trim too....See MoreFaron79
