I have many metal finishes in my home and they look fine together. My dining room chandelier certainly does not match the door knobs. You're trying to get as much money as you can I assume? So if this is the case, don't try to make it look like a kit home with builder basics (all the same finish on everything). Instead go with a totally different finish (ie the black iron which is gorgeous). I'm sure it's not the shiny brass that's an issue anyhoo...it's the cheap fixture. You yourself said it's crap...so change it out to anything that isn't and you'll be miles ahead. In a formal room like a dining room/area, you want to put your best foot forward as that sort of sets a tone. Cheap lighting and the whole room is dismissed...see the issue? You don't need to spend a fortune, but don't go with something you can compare to a 35 buck big box store fixture...and then say your's is worse :oP

I have honed dark granite right now and it stains like crazy esp anything remotely oily. Tried everything to seal it and nothing worked. It was in the house when we bought it and we are now remodeling the kitchen and it it will be gone. Replacing with polished Sea Pearl quartzite if the quote is right (fingers crossed). It's been a process because this kitchen has extremely high end (previous owner installed) cabinets with a high gloss finish in teal blue - gorgeous but challenging and way to expensive to replace. Very sleek and modern. Thanks to the oven forum we chose the Miele Master Chef oven (wanted that rotisserie) and warming drawer and after reading on the Refrigerator Forum we chose the Thermador Freedom Towers for the fridge and freezer. LOL we inquired about getting panels for them to match the cabinets and yikes, the cost was more than the appliances cost. So stainless fronts it is. Everyone here is so helpful - certainly appreciate this site and the forums.

My master bathroom has white cabinets , Carrara marble floors and counters all fixtures are polished nickel …i think they are a little ore upkeep than the chrome, but love the color. I need to change out my shower head…any opinions on using a chrome or satin nickel shower head even though the shower trim is polished nickel? I never wipe off my showerhead except when i clean the bathroom…lol

Our sink fixtures are a mix of satin nickel and brushed SS and they look fine together. Our lights are pewter. Our drawer pulls and door knobs are antique iron. Our pantry door hardware is brushed nickel. They all look fine together. My personal preference is to have hardware and fixtures in the same color "family" - usually broken down into "silver" or "gold". However, you can mix them up if you're careful bow you do it.
