Design Dilemma Furniture Home Decorating

Need help with bedroom furniture placement

We are planning on getting two twin beds for when our sons are both home from college at the same time. My husband also works out of that room so need room for his desk as well. Any ideas how to best place the beds to maximize space and make it as user-friendly as possible. I am envisioning one bedside table in there as well. Thanks!

I would consider bunk beds given the size of the space.

If you put two twin beds and a desk in that room it's going to be a tight fit. Unless your sons are short you are going to want to get extra long twins. Does the measurement of the room not include the closet? Normally you would put the head of the beds on the far right wall so they're not visible from the door. I would put a bedside table between them. Try the desk on the opposite wall. It depends on how large a desk is required. If you can get by with one that is only 24" deep that would be easier to fit than a larger one. Also look to see if you can find a daybed/trundle arrangment with extra long twins. I don't know if they're made that way or not. Bunk beds don't seem appropriate for grown people.

I think your furniture placement will be all right, ncamy. I suggest a few things: 1. get slightly smaller club chairs than the current "overstuffed" size. (I've always wondered who that furniture is for, as you can only actually sit in the space provided and the arms and back don't add to one's comfort!) 2. Get chairs that swivel, so you can move them to and fro according to the light in the room, and 3. put one ottoman between the two chairs. You can face each other and use the single ottoman and still watch the screen, or you can put a tray on the ottoman and use it as a side table for the two chairs.

If you have a better organization system in your closet, and pare down the items that are stored in the room, could you get rid of some of the furniture? Definitely get rid of the TV cabinet and mount it on the wall. Maybe you could get rid of the cabinet beside the closet, or move it elsewhere in the room. We don't have room or furniture measurements so hard to tell, but could it go on the same wall that the green cabinet is on now, but closer to the window? Not sure if it would block access to the bed. I like your headboard and would not replace it. I'd put less art on the walls, not more. For the group of 3 pictures, hang them at the same height and closer together, about the distance of the picture mat or a bit closer. They should "read" as one unit. Unless you use the mirror for dressing/makeup, a piece of art would look better, e.g. the piece that is over the tall dresser, although the formal-looking gold frame doesn't really go with the more rustic look of the room at all. Can you use it in a different room and bring something else in here? The green vase is out of place too. I would fold the checked blanket in half and lay it sideways across the foot of the bed.

New Direction -- taking all of your great feedback into consideration, I have decided to move my office to what is currently my living room aka "the room that nobody uses" from the bedroom project for my granddaughter. So here's where I am on bedroom project; see attached "full size" bed find from Restore for Habitat! Unicorn comforter ordered from the Company Store. NEXT - need help with paint suggestions. Currently has "whiskers" on 3 walls. I am fine with using this as a base or repainting the whole room. Obviously being a little girl, If I work with the whiskers, I will need to throw some pink in with. Maybe the bed wall grey & pink horizontal stripes? Since I have the 2 closet doors that take up a whole wall, should I paint doors & associated trim same color as wall so they do not stick out? I threw in pic of dots that can be ordered from pottery barn that look kind of cute. Can't wait to see your ideas!

I would put one twin bed on each side, with head ends at the window wall, and then put the desk in the middle between them on the window wall. When someone is in residence, they can use the desk as their nightstand. You can obscure the off-center window by hanging draperies across that wall. I don't think you have enough space for a separate nightstand.

We are thinking we could get a twin bed with a trundle that pops up and separates from the bed for when they are both home (which is not that much but we have to have beds for both of them). If you know of a bed like that that is great, please share :).

How about twin corner beds? Maybe set them up as day beds for every day
