Here's another example of a stepback cupboard with drawers. It's "official" description is: "A circa 1860-1870 step-back cupboard having pie shelf beneath shaped apron beneath a top case consisting of pair pf paneled doors with tombstone and molded design with applied cornice molding. Top case rests on bottom case; double drawers above conforming paneled doors having recessed tombstone and molded design matching doors in top case; side panels of lower case also with inset tombstone shaped panels; side of bottom case terminates with successful "cupidÂs bow" base cutout; front apron and feet conform to shaping above pie shelf. This cupboard retains desirable original chrome yellow surface with red highlights; faux birds eye decoration. (84-inches tall X 45-inches wide X 19 1/8-inches deep.) Style looks to be early 20th century, but I haven't seen any folding rocking chairs like that before. Folding chairs yes, but rocking? One must ask oneself why folding, to gain a direction. Two main possiblilities (but could be others): 19th and early 20thC people were on the move a lot more so, one: possibly off a boat/steamship, a deck chair (not a deck-chair) designed to be folded away and stowed when not in use. Two, During those periods, military personnel (officers) would have furniture made to specification (see Campaign Furniture) to be easily packed and transported over great distances and quite often difficult terrain on mules. All designed for easy packing and easy assembly at destination. Hope this gives you a start to finding the origin.

Pretty chairs with a new life, instead of a spot in the landfill. They look great!

I received two rocking chairs from my grandmother many years ago. She's no longer around and nobody in my family knows much about them. I'm "purging" and thinking about donating them, but I'm afraid that they may have some value. Does anyone know anything about them?
