Oh my goodness, did I kill my Sambucus Black Lace?
Comments (21)Don't give up! I can tell you our 4 Sambucus shrubs really took off this year after being planted 3 years ago. They are finally stunning and thriving! We were really considering giving up on them if they looked as ratty at the end of this season as they did for the last couple. I'm really stunned and wish I had a before/after pic because it really is something. By the way... No fertilizer - no nothing other than it's "natural" environment and some minimal pruning/shaping....See Moreoh where, oh where are my royal colors?
Comments (12)I think because of the shipping method RC uses, it takes quite a while for packages to arrive... they are sent by French Post, which is like our regular mail. I wish they offered a faster shipping method, but as of now, they don't. The good thing is... their bulbs arrive in decent shape, even after the long trip. I think 15 days is unrealistic... it's more like 20-25 days! But have no fear... they will arrive! My order took almost a month to arrive, and that was the replacement order. And still, the bulbs were in good shape. Wow, Palmcoast! 25% is a lot of mislabeled bulbs! And if I'm not mistaken, you're not the only customer to receive mislabeled bulbs from MZ! I often wonder what happens from the time the crates of bulbs from the growers arrive at the distributors, to the time they actually pack them for individual orders and ship them out... how do all these bulbs end up in the wrong bags or with the wrong tags? I wonder if it's because they need to hire extra help during the busy season, and the new workers are inexperienced......See MoreOh my gosh - I need answers NOW before Ike strikes.
Comments (6)Hi, I am a newbie and have been collecting BST eggs on my fennel since July. I have raised them inside and so far have released 51. If I were you, I would bring them all inside and raise them. They eat a lot in their last instar, so be prepared to have enough food for them. It has been a joy for me to raise these beauties, and my cats are loving them too. I purchased butterfly pavilions from ShadyOaks Butterfly farm in Florida, but you can use almost any container to put them in, as long as they have enough space to hang when they eclose to dry their wings. Do not overcrowd them. The most I have put in one pavilion has been 14, but I could easily have put in close to 20 in each one with no problems. If you are near a Whole Foods in Dallas, I would suggest you purchase some curly parsley and Dill, as well as the fennel they are eating now. Whole Foods does not spray their organic produce, and I have had no problems with mine eating it. Mine have gotten so fat and healthy. Mine have been eating all three and they like a variety, and these are the host plants for BST. Good luck and keep us posted. Betty...See MoreOh how I love my toad lilies!
Comments (18)hostarox - Most Tricyrtis flowers are small, but some of them have larger-than-usual flowers. Plus, when the plants mature, they get covered up in flowers. Especially the ones that get blooms in the leaf axils. I think it's important to plant toad lilies somewhere that they'll get noticed because you won't notice them from a long distance....See MoreOutsidePlaying
