Need ideas for Sherwin Williams exterior paint
Hello! I have a new build that I need to pick Sherwin Williams paint for. Issue is, I am in between 2 completed houses, each with their tones of color. I need to pick something that will look neutral between the both. My house is the one pictured that is being worked on. To the left is neighbor's house, and I am also attaching neighbor's house on the right. Our windows and garage must remain white, and the roof is a light charcoal gray. There is tongue/groove ceiling in natural pine on front and back porches. The stone can be either Echo Ridge or Bucks County...Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Sherwin William Duration Exterior Paint or Solid Stain? HELP!
Comments (8)The old coat of solid stain that has weathered makes a good prime coat if it's clean, dull & dry and is a sound coat, meaning not peeling or compromised in some other way. Duration is a house paint, whereas the other is a stain. The chief difference is the dry film thickness and sheen. the thin dry film makes the stain follow the contours of the wood and can give you a more authentic or maybe even rustic look, depending on the wood. It will almost always be flat, with no shine at all. The thicker coat will more fill in the grain of the wood and probably have an eggshell or higher shine, maybe even to a satin or semi-gloss. It most likely will not be available flat. A thinner coat means shorter life, the trade-off reflected in the price. A properly applied thicker coat of duration can be expected to last a good long while, but I wouldn't use anyone's "lifetime". If the wood has roughness or character to it, that you want to exploit for a certain look, I'd put stain on it. Comments (18)Sorry for the late update. It's been almost 5 years since we had the exterior painted. Thanks, Jenny, for the reminder! We are so very happy with the color selection. We went with Sherwin-Williams 6257 Gibraltar, Duration Flat. The Duration costs a bit more, but the painter said it would last longer and he was right. The color is a perfect blue grey for us (not any green grey like we had before or some of the greys we tested that looked purple). Different sides of the house at different times of the day obviously look lighter or darker. This shows in the pictures I posted. Before painting we took down some woody bushes around the house perimeter and then afterwards we planted. These are before planting pictures. I also included the Sherwin-Williams color link. Comments (5)Well your home is going to be totally lovely! I like Dover White on a home exterior and in a shady spot. I used it just in the covered entry of my home and it looked so nice... It is just an all around good reliable color, in my opinion. The balance of my house was a more creamy white... and the way I got that color was to send a painter over to check out the color on a house a few streets over! last yearIf you’d want to go lighter, SW Repose Gray might be an option as a light, warm gray.
It’s shown here with SW Dorian Gray on the door/shutters. Not sure about the white…maybe SW Extra White.
