cheap fix ideas for fireplace?
Comments (10)Hmmm, I like the idea of the fern. I just brought ours in for the winter and trimmed them back to within an inch of their lives, but I could just buy a new one. No fake plants or fake candles. I know it is the stereotypical pretentious princess, but I dislike pretty much fake anything (but I can whole heartedly admit that sometimes they look better than the real thing). I also don't mind leaving it empty as pal suggests, but I would have to retile which is a summer or possibly spring break project - until then the fern would make it look a little less stark and cover the broken tile. Any thoughts on where to look at screens? I used to admire RH's but haven't looked there in years. Thanks so much, lisaam. We've been back in the house for almost 2 years now and I am just starting to think about decor stuff again. I was so sick of it. I remember posting about how to integrate the ugly 70s piano into the living room and then 24 hours later it was drenched in water and eventually painted, thanks to insurance, a very chic matte black (still makes me smile)....See MoreIdeas above fireplace please

Comments (4)The most important thing to think about at this stage is where you want the visual focus of the room. If there is nothing else as the focal point, and you do not plan to install a TV, then making this stand out as a prominent feature (with mantel and paint or wallpaper for texture or adding a great piece of wall art) is great. Just keep in mind that electrical code may require that the outlet maintain a cover plate for safety. Please make sure whoever does this work for you knows the local codes and keeps your home safe; you can always "hide" the plate with accessories, which we have done on many jobs....See MoreHELP!
