Old fashioned good quality or Up to date lesser quality?
Comments (29)As hubby, tongue-in-cheek, likes to say about me, "there's nothing too good or too cheap for her". It really depends on the WHAT! Before we spend on a product, service or an experience, we like to consider what will we gain by making the spending decision. We like to be well-informed consumers (especially when something is a large amount of money) and will choose from both categories - old and new. I wonder if this is a right-brain / left-brain question ;?) I'm more of a logical thinker than emotional, so that accounts for many of my choices. I couldn't care less if someone sees me in a $2 (on sale) white T-shirt from Wal-Mart worn for working out (I even have some I bought for $1 at Wal-Mart). A $300 work-out outfit doesn't make me sweat any less or perform any better. While I'll spend a LOT for SmartWool athletic socks which feel better and out-wear cheap cotton socks any day, and I buy quality shoes for working out, and for everyday use. We had a lovely antique bedroom suite, but we got tired of the upkeep, drawers that stick, and the size of it, so we donated it to a Hospice auction. Replaced it with minimalist furniture we purchased from Aldi at a fraction of the price they were selling the same stuff for at the expensive furniture store down the street. -Grainlady...See MorePretty please, need suggestions/mock-ups for shutter and door color
Comments (16)Denita, thanks for the article. Beth H, I am glad you were able to find it. On my computer the rye color actually looks tan (and the pearl looks gray!) That is why I need some outside input. I do like the details on the example houses -- but this was an insurance job, after a tree fell on the house, and unplanned and therefore I had no money for adding details unfortunately (the contractor & I did talk about possibilities). I had to replace the roof, siding, shutters, porch columns and slab. I did have him add wider trim around the porch and garage, and the windows. I could paint the inner windows a dark color -- they are vinyl but should hold a good paint. I am attaching a picture of the house as it looked after the tree damage, with the old shutters in place. The shutters were original to the house -- do you all think it looks better without? (to me it still looks rather naked without them, and without the tree!) I am still hoping that someone will come along who can photoshop in the different possibilities. I would especially like to see Kathy's suggestion. I do appreciate all of your input!...See MoreShutter Color for Dated Orange Brick
Comments (8)I actually like what you have. if you want to lighten things up, then stick w/the autumn tones for the shutters and the doors. any of these color combos are mix and match. if you want to go lighter, try one of these on the shutters, and one on the door. below I used london fog and apple cider on the shutters, and a very orange/rust color for the front door.(Try BM Gold Rush for a similar hue) for the door, try one of these. yes, even the purple would look great. to highlight the entrance area, think about bringing in some gold or brass on the lighting and door hardware. looks great w/your orange brick. Even copper colored lighting fixtures would really amp up that front walkway. the other shade you can try is green. try a darker green on the shutters and lighter on for the door. or use the rust colors any of these darker greens would also work. teal is also nice w/your brick color . getting a door w/glass in it will allow more light and keep it from looking like a cave at the entry....See MorePlease help? Comments (24)Rachel M. Frazier - Whew - I've been second guessing myself so badly. Thanks for affirming my choices. I keep scrolling back to all the comments about going with a white counter on the perimeter and the picture you posted. And while it's actually almond in color, not white, I'm thinking maybe I can get the same effect using the same principles applied for white. I wasn't planning to change the base color of the island - should I be? And I'm planning to keep the island counter the same as the perimeter. I can't see myself giving a wood counter the proper care it'd need over time. Do you think I'll need to swap hardware? It's currently a satin nickel color? Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. I just want to update it! In the next few weeks, the BS will be removed, Silken Pearl installed as well as a new undermounted sink and faucet. I keep telling myself, one step at a time - all the while wanting all the pieces of this puzzle put together before I start. So many details! I sure appreciate the help!...See Morelittlebug Zone 5 Missouri
