Fiberglass Garage Door and Entry Door
Comments (1)Might be a little late for you, but... We bought our front entry door from Pella. Lots of optios for customizing. I am about to order another door for the entrance to the house, from the garage. It is also Pella, with the same grain and stain color. Just different lite option. Here is our front door. Here is the door I am ordering. http://www.pella.com/doors/explore-door-styles/features-and-options.aspx?PCode=FEDGHL&PType=door#/glasscollections/ Hope that helps...See MoreFront entry door Solid wood (mahagony) or Fiberglass
Comments (24)Simpson is in my opinion the best "off the shelf wood door" available. Jeldwen is a pretty good door it was better when Morgan owned them but they were dumbed down a little in my opinion when they were purchased by Jeldwen. As far as the Aurora F/G door this if I am not mistaken is the IWP doors which were at the time before Jeldwen purchased them shaky at best in my honest opinion and I have seen no evidence in any of the products Jeldwen produces that they are higher quality than under the prior manufacturers....See MoreEntry door: Fiberglass or Wood
Comments (17)The answer to your question depends on your climate and whether the door will have some protection from the elements e.g., a porch or (gasp) a storm door. In our coastal Virginia climate, wood doors don't perform well, but they perform better if protected by a porch. You will need to periodically re-paint or re-stain either a FG or wood door. If you're considering a composite door, I suggest you check out Plastpro doors--In my opinion they are better engineered than Therma Tru doors and in our market they cost a little less, too....See MoreExterior Doors - Fiberglass or Wood, and reliable brands?
Comments (11)One quote I got (local mill) was $10,000 for a 3'x8' white oak door with 18" 4-pane divided lite sidelight, and around $5,000 for the other garage to exterior door. A little steeper than I was hoping, but I think that is fair. I should note the door is 2.25" thick - this thing is SOLID. Sure, I'm sure it's not supremely insulating, but often I find the gaps around the door is where the cold comes in, not the R value of the door itself. Also, most doors are NOT that thick!!! Waiting on another local mill option, and a Therma-Tru option (I like information, I'm taking @millworkman information to heart, it's definitely a sentiment I shared when looking at those fiberglass wood-clad doors)....See Moredianechandler
