Counter -depth Refrigerator Recommendations
Comments (5)I just finished a remodel and went with the KA KRFC302ESS. Selecting a refrigerator was the most difficult decision in terms of appliances and I visited the appliance store several times before making my decision. It is functionally and design almost equivalent to the slightly higher priced Jennair which is a KA sister company. I opted for the KA because I wanted a panel ready model and I also liked that it had a bit of additional height. I also didn't want a water dispenser. The refrigerator seems to work fine but I've only had it operating since October when I moved back after the remodel. I like the shallower depth since I don't have things getting lost in the back and the storage for produce and the long center "deli" storage seems to work well as do the various shelves on the doors. I would probably purchase it again although hopefully I won't be purchasing ANY refrigerator in the near future. However, ironically in many ways I prefer my old crummy cheap refrigerator which had the freezer on the top. I realize that functionally the freezer on the bottom makes more sense because heat rises and also one is more likely to be accessing refrigerator stuff and so it's nice that produce isn't at the bottom. However, with a pull out freezer drawer, I can't "cram" as much stuff in as I could with the freezer that was just a box since the baskets in the freezer drawer won't close if they are too high - so I have to be careful not to bring home too much frozen stuff :-). Also, I probably should have gone with a single door - It was way more convenient to load and unload food from the counter with the door swung completely out of the way - I have to stand directly in front of the refrigerator and reach across to the counter. If I had longer arms, maybe this wouldn't be a problem :-)....See MoreKitchenAid side by side counter depth refrigerator?
Comments (13)Itsourcasa - does your KA French door have the interior on the left side water dispenser? If yes, how‘s it working? Ours drips for a bit after use causing water mineral build up on deli drawer side below. We keep a folded up paper towel there to catch after using & pumice stone to clean off orange mineral deposit. Lovely. Also, our ice maker is turned off bc of the klunking noise it’s making. Per research it’s ice maker trying to push out ice that‘s not there. Frig just had new water line installed & water disp works so not plugged. Our frig was new in 2012. If motor is failing it’s lasted longer than BeverlyFLADeziner’s sister’s did! Is your sister’s dislike of her SXS due to space only? Counter depth increases the space loss issue but we must have counter depth! Patricia, we also dislike look of ice maker & water dispenser on door which is why we have current KA French door with interior but I’ve just described problem with that interior water dispenser. The KA SXS in door dispenser looks much better than other counter depth models & the ice bucket inside doesn’t sit on freezer shelf taking up freezer space. That’s why looking at this specific model. I’ll look at Frigidaire brand though based on your recommendation. I looked only at the brands with top ratings. I know SXS are a love em or hate em deal! Since I have experience with both types I think I’m realistic about limits of SXS space & the ice maker not on shelf is big improvement. Beverly, the supply chain delays are why I want a new frig ordered before mine gives up. Getting parts is a problem too though & the couple bad reviews on the KA SXS model I’m considering are giving me pause. Don’t want new frig issue can’t get fixed either! That’s why I’m looking for specific experience with this current model....See MoreGE GYE18JSLSS 33" Counter Depth refrigerator hinge depth measurement

Comments (2)Thank you for your thoughts. Very helpful. I am still focused on Kitchenaid as the appliance store I plan to buy from told me they have been having good results with them and more importantly, the other appliances in my new kitchen which will be supplied by the builder are all kitchenaid and I want everything to match. I currently have all Jennair which is close to top of the line from Whirlpool. I bought extended protection and have so far had to make a big repair on the microwave and a small repair on the dishwasher. My old condo with 30 year old Maytag appliances had never needed repairs in all those years. Today, with all the new electronics to break an extended warranty is a must. Sad but true....See Moremartir
