Comments (10)You really don't need , or want the TSP wash if you are sanding all the cabinet surfaces ! I'd also highly recommend you prime the sanded surface first, let it dry and then sand that with very fine paper before the top coat. That will make for an even tougher surface and will make the top coat smoother eliminating soe of that orange peel....See MoreBM Advance or Cabinet-Coat?
Comments (7)Come on Gurus! I read that on a scale of 1 to 10, conventional alkyd yellowing would rate a 10 and latex a 2. Advance would be a 4. Do you agree? I also read that Cabinet-Coat has a natural green tint, so the White Dove I want would be different in the CC compared to Advance. Do you agree? Does CC also yellow over time? I went to a different BM store (drove to next town over) to ask these questions. The guy was nice, and honest - he didn't have a clue. What do you recommend???...See MoreBM Advance vs BM Cabinet-Coat
Comments (37)Perfect timing for me, this thread. We've replaced our 2'x11' kitchen bench seating area (termite damage -- caught early, but still...), and I just finished priming with Stix. In all my reading, I didn't anticipate how thick the primer would be, fresh out of the can -- my stir stick, jammed into the primer, stood at attention without issue! I contacted INSLX customer svc and was told I could thin with water. I did so, but it was still too thick to level well (I didn't want to exceed the amount of water recommended). I had to sand a fair bit to knock down the ridges. (I've repainted every door, spindle, baseboard and trim in this 26 y/o house of ours by now, using Lowes' American Tradition semi-gloss, and always got a smooth finish.) I have a can of Cabinet Coat at the ready, but am concerned about obtaining a flat finish: foam roller vs quality brush. How does one keep a wet edge when painting such a large swath, even if the paint levels well? (And I've read CC dries rather quickly.) I'm crossing fingers that CC will be the proper consistency (after a good stirring), so I won't have to worry about buying an extender (such as Floetrol or whatever INSLX might recommend). Whizz high-density foam rollers were recommended on one DIYer's site. Though, she was painting only cabinet door surfaces and wasn't dealing with the surface area of a wall-to-wall bench....See MoreBM Advance for Kitchen Cabs - What finish?
Comments (4)I love BM Simply White ... nice choice. I find their paints to be a lot shinier than other brands. I used semi-gloss on the trim throughout my house in a different brand. Comparing that to actual BM samples, their satin finish looks more like my other brand's semi-gloss. I plan to use the satin on new baseboards and a door and trim that I replaced. BM semi-gloss is just way too shiny for me. Can't advise on Advance as I have only used their Aura and Regal Select lines. Love them both. As if choosing a white isn't bad enough, then you have to decide on the finish! The BM store here painted actual samples of wood baseboard for me to take home for comparison. Good luck with your decision!...See Morejyyanks
