Opinions on door to deck/patio

I am redoing a house I recently purchased. I will be partially enclosing what is now a sliding door to a deck so that I can move the kitchen and put the sink under that new window. I have a large window in the living room that I now want to be a door to allow access to the yard and a future deck space.
My question is: What kind of door? I’m including pictures of the window that is there now and the mock up I received so far. I’m looking for opinions on French doors versus sliding doors or any other option. I would rather not close in any of the space
because I love looking at the yard. Are operational sidelights worth it?

I prefer a sliding door, because I grill outside and it is MUCH easier to slide the door open with trays full of food than to open any door, regular or French.

That is a valid point! Do you think they are as secure as a more traditional door style?

In my last home, on the advice of a landscape architect, we used pami pebbles for our aggregate walkway/patio and had the concrete mix tinted a medium brown-reddish color. It was a beautiful combination, especially in contrast with plant materials and a flagstone and brick accent wall. Got many compliments over the years. I didn't find it hard to walk on with bare feet because the pami pebbles are so smooth. We had our backyard patio installed a few years later by a different company and was talked out of using the same materials. Never liked the patio as much as the front yard - in looks or bare-foot comfort.

I'd do a deck. I hate weeding between pavers. Some advice: Our deck is about 10" off the ground, and we get suckers from our plum tree that pop up between the planks. It's low enough to make it really hard to trim under there, and thick weed cloth doesn't stop those things. If you have certain kinds of trees nearby, make sure something is put under it to stop suckers. Also, I cannot over emphasize how much I HATE maintaining the wood. I strongly suggest something like Timber Tech vintage collection (that brand in particular because it's more realistic looking than the other brands). We have that for our front porch and it's super easy to keep clean, and super grippy when it's wet. (edit: I see this is a very old post. seriously people, start a new thread if you have a question.)

We replaced our slider with a patio door. Love the look, but that’s my taste. If you’re worried about security on a slider, add a Charlie bar - buy one that folds up out of the way to open the door or cut a broom stick to fit in the track.

Well our anderson has a punch down lock. Our old one, we put a piece of wood in the slide.

Here are the plans: As you can see, they currently include sliding doors, but I’m not convinced that’s what I want.
