I'm thinking of shortening my peninsula. What about my pendant lights?
How close to the end of the peninsula can they be? I hate to put multi-directional lights there again! Any ideas and input would be appreciated. Here's a mock up with a 45" passthrough to the kitchen.

last yearThe peninsula would be 88" long if I did a 46" passthrough. I see large pendants that come close to overhanging the edge of islands, I guess to light the passage?? Not that I would use such large fixtures. Just wanting to know the rules.

Comments (7)Thank you all for your great feedback!! Let me clarify a bit... The island will be for gathering, eating, kids doing homework, etc. There's a second island closer to the range that will serve as a food prep station. I already have two recessed lights over the center of the island in question. The pendant lights are more or less decorative, but they do provide a nice amount of light. Anyway, it was my lighting guy who suggested the whole curved positioning of the pendants. It sounded like a clever idea at the time, but it looks sorta strange now that it's installed. Maybe it seems awkward because I've never seen pendants arranged like that. Maybe there's a reason they're not arranged like that... teedup1, you're absolutely right about the head shadow on plates. That will definately be a problem with the current placement. You wonderful people have confirmed my gut instinct! I'm gonna move them back and probably alighn them in straight line. Comments (12)We went out to the house today to remeasure the pendant lights. They are off in both directions. I’m going to tell the general contractor to fix them Monday. I just can’t live with them the way they are. I took painters tape and marked the island so he can see how off the mark they are. Lol the water bottles mark the center of the hanging lights. Comments (12)@RL Relocation LLC thank you. There is a fixture already installed above the sink to provide the entire kitchen with lighting. No bulb installed yet though. Wiring for the lighting above the peninsula is easy. The wires currently run in a layer between the exposed rafters and the external roofing. They both FIT. it's the feel: ) The Target LAMP shade test is still a good way to test before you buy, unless an easy return on the actual pendant. What I like about this one is how the walnut shades seem to somewhat blend into the walnut uppers. I would not want anything that drew attention to the pendant light. I would want the focus to be the showstopper stone backsplash. (I think the scale is probably off. I believe it is about 4’)
Your example above would look good too, but the reason I would not pick that particular one is because I am distracted from the stone by the oddly draping cord that seems to defy gravity. It makes my eye stop, look at the cord, and think hmmmmm. How is the cord doing that? Oh I see, it has a wire attached to the ceiling holding it up. Now I start wondering who decided that was a cool idea? It is interesting. 🤪Edit to add: And don’t ask me why the thin cord holding up just the one end of the pendant I posted doesn’t distract me wondering how it defies gravity. 🤭🙄
