Mailbox that is not too deep

Where can I find a mailbox that is only 4" deep. Most models I see are more than 7" deep.

Need to replace a mailbox that looked somewhat like the one in the picture right after the handyman ripped it out before figuring out the the replacement box is not going to fit in.

Can you find the name of the manufacturer somewhere on the existing mailbox?

Sorry Joe but you won't find one. All USPS mail boxes must be approved by the post master of the united states, and if you look at any in the store you will see this stamped into into the metal frame.

If you make some nasty pile of a box that isn't approved the carrier can refuse to deliver to the boxes, and hope your carrier knows the regulations and does refuse. Would you want to shove 8" long mail into 4" long boxes all day?

Something I never thought of, I opted to keep my trash can under the sink, where I have kept it for 30 years and lo and behold, IT DOES NOT FIT under the deeper sink. I took the pullout out for the trash of the mix because I didn't want to lose more cab space. I have always kept it under the sink and it worked for me. So yesterday I bought one of those rev a shelf pullouts and it just fits under the sink on one side. Whew!! No other option for the trash otherwise (without some modification of course :) )and I am happy again with the trash area. Otherwise the deeper sink is okay, if it seems too deep, I just move to the other side which is not so deep.. Swanstone Granito Fern76

Lol, at the belly flop mental image! Ok, if I have to ask my DH or contractor to measure my armspan in relation to the kitchen project, they are really going to lose it, they already think I am crazy enough! I get it though, and its a totally practical concern. (Little Fishies, do you have irregularly long arms?!) My contractor did say he thinks they can frame it in to get it a bit less deep, the carpenter will know more. Justmake it, your window is beautiful. Your cabinets look great too. Are you going to have casing around the bump out? Are you putting uppers next to the bump out? I'm trying to decide how much room I need to leave next to where the bump out starts before I start a cabinet. I'm going to check that out on other posts showing these windows. Little Fishies thanks for posting that. When it comes time to order I'm sure it will be helpful. Thanks again!

I like a deeper countertop than the standard 24", and I think 27-30" deep is great. I think a countertop that is 34" is too deep to reach toward the back easily. The upper cabinets will have to be deep enough to be accessible over such a deep counter. The upper cabinets will have to be custom, and cost a lot, and I am not sure how you access the back of such a deep upper cabinet. Also, your appliances will have to be pulled out from the wall, and you will need countertop filler behind the appliances to meet the 34" depth. If I were you, I would set up cardboard counters that are 34" deep, and see how it looks and feels.

We have 15" deep uppers on one side of our Kitchen with standard depth base cabinets (24"D) and counters (~25.5"D) - we have no issues and I don't notice them when I'm working in front of them - and we're a tall family (I'm 5'10" - the shortest!) We have 12" deep uppers on the other side of the Kitchen and I wish we had gone with 15" deep on that side as well! I work primarily on the side with the 15" deep uppers (our Prep & Cooking Zones). Regarding the depth - it should be 18" from the bottom of the light rail to the finished counter so standard small appliances will fit under the upper cabinets. Most countertop small appliances (mixers, coffeemakers, etc.) are designed to fit with an 18" backsplash. If you want to go higher, consider whether you can reach the cabinets (as was mentioned earlier). I probably wouldn't go much higher if you plan to sell in a short time. Lily'sMom - IKEA uses a rail system for mounting cabinets.

That site’s smallest mailbox is 6 3/8” deep. You might have to check with other building owners where they got theirs, otherwise you (or the handyman) probably have to build out the structure to accommodate the new standard.

I need to see where that original one was on the house.Do you never get pkgs ? I do not understand the issue with going a proper depth or better yet a post with a milbox insted of attched to the house .

@kevin9408 -- I think they mean "deep" like back into wall, not like the length of the boxes top to bottom....

Are you a landlord? Go to your LOCAL post office asap.

You are going to have trouble soon......: ) from any older tenant/owner.

Or.... cut back the NEW box to a 4" depth.

Ask a postman. So LITTLE mail is actually what you would refer to as mail. Trust me, it fits in there, and they simply bend or fold. Catalogs and coupons? A bin in the foyer and nobody takes the copious "refuse". I toss it every week to recycle! Trust me. I live multi dwell.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with it sticking out of the hole by a couple inches. Most I've seen are surface mounted anyway.
