Hallway lighting?

I was wondering if you would remove this dome light and replace with ceiling "LED wafer and add one above the bathroom door near mirror. I am trying to decide before I repaint the house as it needs new non gloss paint and a color change to greyish blue istead of brown. Thanks

Yes! I’m no pro so I don’t want to suggest new options, but those lights aren’t very attractive. I’d also make sure those walls are primed really well if you’re going from shiny to not shiny . Are they semi gloss? Enamel? I’m not totally sure but some of those shiny paints are oil based and latex paints won’t work over them without proper preparation.

"A lumen is a measure of visible light energy. More lumens equals a brighter light. All lighting manufacturers are starting to tell us how many lumens are produced." You made a good point - would a hanging lamp be brighter for bottom of stairs? I think LED Troffer I posted has 4,500 lumens total [125 Lumens per watt], among most efficient manufactured to date. With flat design, there's no shadows or spotting. Going downstairs, especially if older eyes [sorry], ya need uniform light... BEAM: your lumen needs are calculated on an individual basis.

Thanks for the feedback. We don’t have the budget to work with a lighting designer and we aren’t in the US, but I appreciate the offer! RL - thank you for the mock ups. I like the drum ones and I think I’ve seen something similar at Home Depot. I really wanted a black foyer light but the one I like has been discontinued and it’s only available now in the satin. Everything else I see is either too trendy or too ornate. I’ll keep looking. I can also go darker on the paint colour to get it to pop a little better. It’s a big space with a good amount of natural light so I think it could handle saturated wall colour.

To line up the lights means electric work, box moving, ya know you can't abandon it it would have to be removed and a new one installed, dry wall patching, ceiling painting, so no this is not worth even thinking about. I would update the fixtures and yes match them so you don't draw attention to them.

What I meant was, bring thr upstairs fixture downstairs, move the downstairs upstairs and place the downstairs fixture closer to the front door, rather than in the middle of the hallway and add another fixture toward the end of the downstairs hall or augment the fixture with recessed lights.

I would suggest a LED tracklight with an installation that works with the vents you seem to have on the ceiling.

during 2020 I painted the walls during pandemic and the salesman said this is what you want for kids fingerprints for hallways, living rooms. Its semigloss. This time around I am getting a professional with proper painter. Since the attic steps and AC return is in between the dome light ad bathroom is what made me consider adding wafer LED ceiling lights so its flush and should give a more open look. The over hng couch lights are mor when just to read as opposite wall I have wall washers which I am swapping with LED wafers that swivel so I can remove the standing lamp over couch. The foyer light I am leavig since wife likes it and it goes with decor and light entire area up nice. Thanks

Definitely replace that light fixture, and yes, add at least one more light fixture in the hall. It looks dark and tunnel like, right now.

when the "foyer" light is on the hallway is light but I think replaing the dome light in hallway and adding a second wafer LED light above the bathroom door should work.
