I'd leave the poly off the floor. The place for it was beneath the slab. All it will do if it's tight enough is accumulate water under it. Building Science Corp. recommends two layers of 1/2" ply on the floor. The XYPEX may be overkill. I have used it, but only where there was a concern as the excavation revealed visible rivulets of water. Utility trumps looks. Always keep the floor drains and cleanouts available after insulation! If you choose not to insulate the utility room wall, still insulate and seal the rim joist area, as this is always the greatest source of air leaks and heat transfer. If you ever have a major flood the lack of slope to the floor drain will be down in the noise. More important is thinks like PT bottom plates for walls and holding drywall slightly above the floor (at least 1/2 inch and more is better). Even baseboard molding should be held up a little to make it easier to vacuum up any water near the wall.

I'm not sure how old this message is, but I'm in the process of painting the floors in my new/old house using acrylic latex paints. We took up the carpet and I'm in the process of cleaning the LR floor now. I already painted my studio, and it looks great...almost like granite. I haven't sealed it yet, though. CaliDesign,. Thank you for the suggestions, as I love those neutrals. I need opinions.... DH is impatient for wall and cabinet paint color selections without comparing them to countertop or backsplash. He says paint color first, then make the other choices,and I say a plan is needed first. As I said, I prefer light colored neutrals, like the inspiration room! including the marble look Quartz with antique brass hardware that will work woth the bench, whereas DH says nickel hardware. He says the bench colors are not important and I say the colors must be considered. So, he said SW Sea Salt for the walls, which is a shade lighter than SW Comfort Gray a close match to the bench. I hesitate re: Sea Salt because I really don't want a nursery look. Every SeaSalt room I see has white cabinets, which look nursery to me. He leans to coastal and nickel, whereas I lean to neutral contemporary with antique brass, bronze ---WOULD SW Sea Salt reduce the contrast in the room and make the space feel larger? Sea Salt Example: Would white cabinets and antique brass hardware like these look okay?
