Help with kitchen island/counter tops

We are looking to add an island to our kitchen and wondering if i should do a white quartz ( consistent mushroom cabinet color) or stick with black pearl granite and do maybe a stained wood cabinet for island? I would love some design opinions for the project. I have included a photo of our current kitchen and some ideas I found.

It’s hard to tell from this photo whether there is comfortable space for an island (36-48 inch clearance all sides), and/or how putting one in would interact with the adjacent room. Aesthetically your idea seems reasonable for your kitchen.

Actually you need 42" - 48" clearance between perimeter counters and island. If you're not having seating at the island, you need a minimum of 36" between it and the wall on the opposite side.

If you have enough room, I'd opt for the wood island with the black granite. It will be too hard to match whites.

Hello, Have you searched for feedback on concrete countertops? There was a great one on here that definitely turned me off. I don't like how porous it is, the staining, etc. But I'm a lover of stainless steel which is what I am planning on for my kitchen. One of my friend's sister put in concrete w/out knowing how it is and is now very upset with how it's so easy to stain and she just hates it. Just a head's up. Amanda

Thank you both! gemini - it is IMPOSSIBLE to tell colors on the Heath website. We are lucky to live fairly close to the factory and went out there to check out their overstock inventory. Found some colors that spoke to us, but they were nothing like the colors on the web. That's the nature of these things. But like you, I can't keep my hands off them. They are going to be a royal pain to install, though (seconds are cheap since they aren't exactly uniform in size). rhome - Thank you for that perspective. We're at the stage now where we have to make 25 decisions a day and it seems at every step we get a new opinion. Ah, well. In the final analysis it all comes down to what we like best...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong I don't believe many wood counter tops are actually "waterproofed" or stained but just rubbed down with mineral oil. In any case your best bet is to test your finish on a plank made from the same wood and try using it around your kitchen.

Thanks - and I was planning the white perimeter uppers and lowers with a darker quartz counter top ( i like the darker charcoal -matte finish- on top of the white cabinets)and the light gray island cabinet with marbled quartz top. I do love a dark gray cabinet but I have a small kitchen and worried it may be too dark. We are a family of 5 with three messy kids - although they are getting older and less messy lol. Ill have to look at the stained gray - i just dont like to see the grain of wood in cabinets. This island below has the pendants I will do (I'll do 2 smaller Hicks pendants). I like the look of this island and top and the white cabinets with dark quartz in lower pic what do you think?
