48' built in refrigerators vs. cabinet infill
Comments (4)You can buy a GE Profile 48" built-in fridge at ~$1500 less than Monogram and the mechanicals are identical. That,I think,is the cheapest 48" built-in. When people rate the performance of Monogram built-in fridges they are relative to Sub-Zero,Miele and other super high end fridges not to LG,Samsung and the like. Having said that no line of fridges is lemon free. But these high end built-fridges have much longer warranties than standard fridges. Usually, 5 years for everything and 12 years for parts. Putting in a 36 fridge where a 48" belongs will look like a Mercedes S-Class with three 20" wheels and one 14" space saver spare....See MoreSubzero 42" vs 48"
Comments (6)This depends on you. My DW is capable of filling our 48-inch 632 plus another refrigerator in the basement, and we are a family of two. Maybe with teenagers yours will be scoured daily causing continuous space generation. Or you might consider an overflow refrigerator somewhere else. Flour storage, a week's worth of orange juice, or whatever other bulky stuff you want to keep cold can take a lot of space. kas...See MoreOpinions on 36 inch vs 42 inch cabinets
Comments (12)42", definitely! Not only for added storage, but also to prevent the dust-magnet gap b/w the ceiling and cabinets (that do not go to the ceiling). [I have two cabinets that I wish went to the ceiling...it was a look I thought I wanted, and sometimes still do, but there's the dust...(I put newspaper down to "collect" it, but it's still dusty!)] If you went with the shorter cabinets, were you planning on deeper crown molding? I'm assuming not; I assume you were going to have that dust-magnet gap I mentioned above. However, if you were, 13+ inches of crown molding would definitely be out of proportion. It's a win-win-win situation! No gap - Win! *Maybe not...see below Proportional crown molding (7.5") - Win! Taller cabinets for the price of shorter - Win! Oh, and more storage - Bonus Win! ++++ 9'4" = 112" 36" base + 18" backsplash area + 42" cabinets + 7.5" crown molding = 103.5" Possibly: 36" base + 18" backsplash area + 1" light rail + 42" cabinets + 7.5" crown molding = 104.5" *Hmmmm...another 8.5" to the ceiling....looks like you may still have the dust-magnet gap. How about 48" tall cabinets + 9" or 10" crown molding (depending on light rail)? Or...39" + 12", stacked? Yes, these options will cost more.... 36" base + 18" backsplash area + 1" light rail + 39" cabinets + 12" cabinet + 6" crown molding = 112" or 36" base + 18" backsplash area + 39" cabinets + 12" cabinet + 7" crown molding = 112" or 36" base + 18" backsplash area + 1" light rail + 48" cabinets + 9" crown molding = 112"...See MoreCan you do a 42 or 48" fridge with ikea cabinets?
Comments (13)Will your fridge be flanked by 24" deep tall pantry cabs? If so, for the 48" fridge, you could buy 4 24" upper boxes (15", 20" or 30" high, as needed) and install 2 in front of each other (don't use backs for front cabs), You'll need to shorten the depth of the 2 rear cabs as the Sektion uppers are now ca. 14" deep each. Attach the front cabs to the rear ones and hang on the rail. Use 2 filler pieces (ca. 1"wide) between these new cabs and the flanking cabs, and fasten all cabs to each other and to the flanking cabinets (use long bolts, so your cabinets won't have a chance to sag. Same goes for the 42" fridge, use 4x 21" uppers with fillers. The negative with 21" wall cabs is that if you use the 20" high cabs, they only come with double doors. That would be too many doors for my taste. So, depending on your door style (slab) you could shorten 2 single 21" base doors. Of course that's not an issue if you buy custom doors. Something like this: Good luck!...See MoreSabrina Alfin Interiors
