I'm Clueless... Can you help?
Comments (7)Hello, Sometimes individual heaters in each room is the best you can do for the money spent. Use bigger or smaller heaters if money is an issue. With this said, designing a quality duct system after the house is built is sometimes very expensive. Get several HVAC guys to look at your house and make recommendations. Local fuel costs should be considered, when making your choices. In my area forced air is 99.9% of what is found. A few new homes are using radiant heat, but the count can almost be made on one hand. This is for a major metropolis. Designing a single source forced air system that effectively works on multiple floors is almost impossible. When I find a home that is comfortable all over, it usually has multiple systems, one for each floor. I discussed a 5 unit cascaded system with an owner a couple of years ago. The main unit always ran, and the various other units ran upon demand. The owner was the local rep for Waterfurnace. (Geothermal) Designing a cascaded system is unique. To retrofit a cascaded system, would be difficult. Mini Split systems can be used where ducts cannot be concealed. A minisplit multiple outlet system is more expensive to install, but will have the economics of a single source system. The problem with mini split systems, is they are not so common. Finding an installer in my area that has knowledge of this technology would be difficult. In the past, many retrofit installations would use a large chase in the corner of a room to run duct thru floors. A solution was developed, using high velocity mini ducts. The technology also allows for single system economies. Once again the typical tech will not have specific knowledge about this technology. Sometimes the best is the most simple. Use individual units in the affected rooms. Either put the unit in a wall, or in the window. Once again this depends on the price of electricity to fuel costs....See MoreClueless about exterior color. Please help!
Comments (14)cao100, I was trying to "paint" your house yesterday but got frustrated with the Ben Moore program that I have. It wouldn't let me get the house very dark. Even the darkest shade I picked ended up light. I can show you a few of those but I don't think it would be helpful. I didn't post above in hopes that it stays near the top and one of the other PS'ers with better paint can help. I wish SW would come up with a paint your own picture program. I'd love to see some of those other colors too. I was trying more in the dark terra cotta or brown family and it looked nice. I also wasn't sure about your trim since you have two colors of trim. A darker band and lighter ones around windows and gutters. Maybe I'll try again later if no one responds above! Good Luck Lindy...See MoreHelp with exterior color please! Clueless in Clifton!
Comments (9)I love the color as it reads in this photo. I would try to find a sample that looks like this photo and try it out. Your home is surrounded by beautiful landscaping and trees. I think it looks marvelous to have the house be a part of it all instead of having it pop out from the natural environment. The color in the pic also goes well with the roof and with the drive way gravel. (Don't forget that the color of the gravel is a huge part of the color field of your house.) Also, parts of your home look more standard suburban construction - the bay window, and the window above with the rounded top. Other parts of the house look like a very high end custom build. I think the color in the photo does a great job of tying both of the qualities together and giving it a very lux look. Congrats on your new home....See MoreI'm clueless about finishing touches... Comments (6)What a beautiful living room you have made. The credenza under your TV is particularly gorgeous. Here is what I would consider doing if this were my room- just to give you ideas to play off of for a start. I would begin by finding some blue, patterned throw pillows for the sofa and the arm chair. I like Indian block prints. They are classic and fresh. What I have shown is not exactly bargain, Target/Home Goods, but aside from the Ginori, it's not terribly expensive either. Here are some from John Robshaw: And for the blue arm chair, I thought something like this could be fun: Next I would find an orchid or cyclamen for the table by the blue arm chair. I am partial to cyclamens, so here: I would look for a silver cachepot. Here is a simple one from The Enchanted Home. I like how the silver echoes your side table by the sofa. I would like a much simpler/more modern silver cachepot, this is all I could find right now. Then for the coffee table, I would find a few pretty and interesting coffee table books: Assouline, Phaedon, Taschen, Rizzoli all have great, colorful, conversation sparking titles available. It is very common to put stuff on top of books on coffee tables. That is not my thing. I would rather just see something pretty next to the stack of books. Maybe a bowl or a vase in this Ginori pattern (Orientale in azalea): Lastly the table between the sofa and arm chair could use a lamp perhaps. I would look for something sculptural in crystal. Like this from Horchow: Your room is lovely and will come together more and more over time. Don't rush yourself. Wait to find things that really speak to you, so that you infuse the room with your personality....See Morelisedv
