I'm clueless about what goes in my china cabinet (lots of photos)
Comments (29)"It's a house, not a museum. If you're only displaying stuff because it's pricey, antique, etc, then what's the point?" Ideefixe, I assume you are talking to me b/c I am the only one who didn't like the boxes. (Well, I like the boxes, just not in the china cabinet.) I don't think an object has to be pricey or antique to be displayed, but everytime I see those boxes, I picture a husband yelling "Honey, where did you put the stamps?" I think it is because the largest box has that silver rivet or snap on the side. They remind me of the canvas boxes that I just purchased at Target for my stationery supplies. They are pretty and functional, but their function doesn't seem suited to a formal dining room. Everything else in the OP's dining room is so polished and refined, the boxes feel like the odd man out. Just wanted to clarify so you wouldn't think that I'm a dollar-sign snob....See MoreClueless about exterior color. Please help!

Even the darkest shade I picked ended up light. I can show you a few of those but I don't think it would be helpful. I didn't post above in hopes that it stays near the top and one of the other PS'ers with better paint can help. I wish SW would come up with a paint your own picture program. I'd love to see some of those other colors too. I was trying more in the dark terra cotta or brown family and it looked nice. I also wasn't sure about your trim since you have two colors of trim. A darker band and lighter ones around windows and gutters. Maybe I'll try again later if no one responds above! Good Luck Lindy...See MorePlease Help! I have no idea what I’m doing at all. Comments (12)If you don’t have wiring for a ceiling fixture, and if you would like to have one - a swag plug-in chandelier is an option; they come in lots of styles. This is a colorful one. It seems like you have a view from the kitchen of a substantial part of the sectional. So this would seem to allow you to interact, face to face, with family and friends - plus watch children playing, etc. If current placement works well for you, for sure leave it. The sectional works well. It provides a lot of seating, in one fell swoop, with a streamlined effect. It is not in the way and leaves a lot of room for walking around. It has nice lines, too. Good choice.👌🏼...See MoreI'm CLUELESS with living room decor
Comments (28)Not to be pendantic, but I think the floor plan may not be drawn correctly in some key areas. If you look at the plan with stoop at the bottom of the page, and living room left of foyer, I think the left wall of the living room should be same length as the right wall. That would make the kitchen (tall cabinets) closer to the front of the house, and possibly the overall kitchen larger as well. The eat-in part of kitchen, near the patio, may be larger than drawn, and the doorway into the family room is probably much wider than drawn. The fireplaced family room may be wider than drawn, as the window would not fit next to the fireplace, or maybe the fireplace is drawn too wide. The hallway looks more than 5-ft wide, which could be, but is not typical. If tv is a consideration, the left wall of the family room has a pass through, so the right wall would be the tv location. Similarly, in the living room, the right wall is a pony wall, so the left wall would be the tv location. The fan in the family room, and light fixture in living room, lead me to believe that the builder's intent was for the living room to be a dining room, and the family room to be the living room. I think they are basically the same size room, except the family room could perhaps borrow a bit of space from the hallway....See Morelisedv
