How do I hang umbrellas?

Hi! This is non house related but this forum is full of such creative minds, I’m giving it a try.

Decorating a school hallway with umbrellas. I don’t know if I should hang them right side or upside down but I do not know how to hang them at all! Any ideas?! Photos are the school hallway and some inspo pics. The green poles are magnetic-

Very cool inspiration picture, but I would definitely talk to your school maintenance people before beginning. There are many, many things buried in the ceilings including security cameras, sprinkler heads and smoke detectors, tech stuff for the wifi, to name just a few. But I love the look!

The green supports are your only option because of sprinklers.

It will be fine, Nina- very hardy here. BTW Unless you have the dwarf variety, put that puppy in a strong pot and divide frequently unless you want a 5'x5' monster on your hands. It's pretty hard to deal with once it gets large and it gets large quick! Happy Ponding! Lynn

Curtain brackets would look really cool. Like these ones, if you don't want it to stick out too far: Or, squared off black steel or iron hooks like this below. Be sure to check measurements to make sure the inside of the hook is the right size for that pole. You say you had wall studs mounted at the right height? in that case you'll be fine. anchors are not necessary when you have studs.

A photo from further back would help but you would need two length of curtain, a fixed set to hang under the bulkhead, then the balance sized to fit up by the ceiling (hospital track?) The will never stack back all the way to the wall as the section under the bulkhead would be decorative only

LOL That is a swing, and he is trying to go high. Not the same issue at all. A porch swing doesn't need to do the same thing. :-) Also, the angle of the swing wouldn't be the same. It's front to back, not side to side.

What is the ceiling height? Kids’ ages? My first thought was with liability if an umbrella falls on someone. Depending on ceiling height, would the kids try to pull them down by the handles if they’re hung upright?

If there’s somehow no chance of any problems with that, is there any way you could attach metal S hooks to the ceiling and/or poles? Depending on the design of the umbrellas, maybe some heavy duty fishing line to secure them to the hooks?

Sorry, that’s all I’ve got. Just hard to get past a bunch of kids not trying to ”mess” with umbrellas from the ceiling.

ETA - Paul’s pic makes it look possible due to height and hanging them upside down.

Chloe bud makes a good point about kids trying to pull them down.

But on the other hand my first thought is to not hang them upside down because kids are going to throw stuff up into them.

Depends on which way you want to hang them, but I'm thinking upside down might be easier, since you can secure the handles. Also thinking of a cord or wire stretched between 2 points and the handles tied to it.

There are also Command hooks.

If kids can reach them, tho, all bets are off. You just know some will try to jump and touch or grab them as they pass.

You can also cut of the handles if hanging upside down to shorten the length. Drill holes in poles and thread through rope.

Thank you all!! Kids will 100% not be able to reach them. The ceiling is very tall. This is for a dance event, so they will only be up for about four hours total!
