First, remove the shutters, they are way too small for those windows. Next, paint the front doors to get rid of one of all those clashing red colors. Navy blue might look good here. Next, you need to change either the roof or the house color. A grey roof would be easier to work with. But if the roof is still in good shape, take a look at Romabio limewash for the brick. When you are ready for structural changes, in addition to the pillars, I think you need to look at widening the front steps and improving the front landscaping to work with the beautiful trees behind your house. And is it possible to add a roof deck to that one story part on the right side of your home? (you would have to access it by turning a window on the right side into a doorway). There is a lot to do here, but since you are happy with the interior, you can take as long as you need to update the exterior at your own pace.

What purpose would the front deck serve? I see none. IMO landscaping is the thing to give this house some life and I have to be honest ranch does not enter my brain when I look at that house . What is your style ? Maybe post more idea books instead of one light. That might help us help you. BTW IMO dark soffits will make the house seem squatty is that what you want .Get a nice MCM front door with lots of glass and then go to work on landscaping. If MCM is the style you like this would be a great inspiration for landscaping or the bottom pic if you are up to a more MCM look

I dont think the house looks short. It looks fairly normal for a house with a basement. Its a cute house. It just looks a bit blah, at the moment. Nice roof. A porch, might be a nice feature, or at least some type of roof over the front door, for people to stand at and not get all wet, or full of snow. The rest can be done with landscaping, and some pots with flowers (when it isnt snowing). The front door could be painted a nice bright cheery color of your choice, as long as it goes with your red roof.
