Nothing at all impressive about them. They appear to be a builder grade option at best.

We are about to break ground on our forever home. We have saved up enough to build it out of our pocket, but the wife insists on windows with a black exterior. Any recommendations on what brand would be the best bang for our buck?

Like I said on the other board, not sure if that is really a specialty roller or just the spline side of a screen roller. These guys have a few and if it really a PITB, don't be afraid to open up one of the ends. Just don't do it with a jigsaw. Here is a link that might be useful: Spline roller

I looked at all the vinyl window options and came across energy wise manufacturing out of Schullber, WI. I could not be happier w this product! I have been wanting a screened in porch for many years, but could not justify the cost if it was not used "most" of the year. I live in Richmond, VA where we have mild winters and it is not uncommon to have sunny 60 degree days in Dec/Jan/Feb. These windows create a "greenhouse effect" and allows me to enjoy my screened in porch most of the year. Alot of people thought this idea was crazy - but I am glad I stuck with it and found a company that makes them and was willing to ship them to me. Besides for retaining heat in the winter, I really enjoy the fact that the room stays clean from dust and pollen most of the time. Some people balked at the idea of taking them in and out, and also storing them. But for me it’s worth the trade off. The shipping cost is high ($300.00) especially in my case bc my window openings were SO LARGE (60 X 66). An added bonus is that the shipping container acts as a heavy duty storage container for the windows when not in use. I store the container under my deck. Eugene is a great guy and extremely responsive to his customers! This a unique product and for people who don’t mind the effort, it is the perfect solution to get more use out of a screened in porch. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

vinyl verses fiberglass windows?

I would recommend fiberglass over vinyl. 10+ years experience with Marvin Infinity fiberglass windows. They continue to perform and look as they did when installed. The home next door is on their second set of vinyl windows within a bit longer time frame. Several casement windows installed in fiberglass were not available in vinyl. Vinyl did not have the strength to support the glass size when open. When comparing the dimensions of the glass vs the frame the fiberglass option for any size offered significantly more glass and less frame than the vinyl. And Marvin has released a new line with even slimmer frames. The Modern Line has denser fiberglass framing material for more strength to get slimmer frames. The OP hasn't received any first hand reviews of WeatherBarr vinyl windows. I would ask the company for customers to contact from 10 years ago. Ask them for their experiences. Loewen versus All Weather Windows

Loewen are wood or wood aluminum clad. All Weather is aluminum clad pvc or acrylic wrap. Different products entirely. I am not at all familiar with the All Weather brand so tough to say but I will say Loewen is a quality product and you are not comparing apples to apples.

Marvin Essential or Elevate, depending on wood interior. They are both fiberglass.

I haven’t researched Andersen supervised you know enough to form an opinion. Are there any particular Anderson windows to stay away from for new construction?

Why are you surprised? I would get the best window you can for you the budget. I probably would not go with anything Anderson. I would look at a minimum Marvin Elevate or Essentials. If I had the budget Marvin Ultimate's or Kolbe Sterling Heritage.

Sorry, talk to text screwed me up on my reply. It would appear that when it comes to windows, there really isn’t a middle ground? You either buy the cheap builder grade windows, or you spend twice as much for a good one I suppose.

There are middle brands (Essential or Elevate). The cheap builder grade windows will cost you more in the long run as they will need to be replaced considerably sooner.
