Comments (111)sue, i'll be turbo grading on monday and tuesday, final papers as they write their final exams and then the exams as they come in, then the greenhouse on wed, then thursday my lit papers are due so a final batch of turbo grading, greenhouse friday sat and sunday, and grades are due monday so somewhere before then i have to add up all of those numbers. that will probably be my friday night, sitting on the couch, watching the thursday night tv shows online, and cursing at the calculator. i have done nothing in my garden un a long time, no transplanting of seedling yet. don't even have a plot dug up. rain rain rain. after next week, though, if no one else signs up for my 102 comp class (which would be BAD. if you know anyone desperate enough to pass comp 2 that they will come to waynesburg to do it, let me know LOL) i will only be working at the greenhouse until the last week of june, when i do my week long nature lit class. hopefully i can get everything planted out before the heat of july kicks in!!...See Moremink blankets and other hospital survival items
Comments (19)How about making a "smile" or "feel good" jar? Just take a pretty large glass/plastic jar or decorative box (you can decorate the outside yourself to make it more personal) and fill it with tons of folded slips of paper with encouraging/positive quotes, jokes, happy memories from family and friends, personal caring notes etc. I like to use scrapbooking paper, plain white on one side for writing/printing on, so each slip is pretty and decorative when folded over. Then the person can pull out one (or two or three) when they are feeling down, lonely, just need a pick me up etc. I hope she finds a match soon, my husband had a BMT when he was 8 due to a rare genetic disease, his father became his donor (unmatched) because his sister, who was a match couldn't donate because there was a possibility she was a carrier of the same disease. Females are carriers of it, but males are the ones affected by it. He pulled through fine even with it not being a match, really hoping your daughter's friend does too....See MoreAfrican Violets -New to this, need ideas on plants selections!
Comments (41)Aegis, Leaves vs. plugs. I don't have a strong success rate with leaves that arrive in the mail. I heard Annie say to order leaves, so I did try. Terri, I believe I have a similar crocheted piece. I like your Rex Begonia. Before I got into AVs in a large way, I grew Rex Begonias, or any begonias. Both of your comments and sharing are delightful. And D Barron's. Everything having to to with AVs seems complicated lately. It is complicated to order them across country. The AV mag has been showing various gesneriads. D Barron, if you have not tried to grow AVs for ten years, you might find that at the field had changed a lot. There is a great deal of diversity that many find fascinating. If you have a local garden club in your area, you might stop by for a visit and bring in one or more of your plants to show and talk about. The sharing might interest you and others....See MoreBlanket Chest or Trunk
Comments (9)The paint is orginial, it has just been kept in extraordinary shape. A gentleman that was helping me wrote and said " ...wonderful marriage chest, There is a lot that is impressive about this chest. The detail is extraordinary. Important to understand that this chest joins to families, possibly noble ones. I say that because of the crown shaped lock,as well the monolithic writing of the families initials. you will notice that each side is different.the one on the left appears to be a 3 letter monogram ,(I could be wrong) to me to contain the letters D/ C with a large center letter being an A ( possibly) an H. The second monolithic set of letters is more difficult.I believe it to be a 4 letter monogram , J /C the large center letter being an A (possibly) an H.I am not sure of the fourth letter (possibly a Maiden name). What I find very intriguing is that I have two books on "Monograms and Alphabetic Devices By Hayward and Blanche Cirker Copyright 1970 these books contain about 10 different styles mostly (British and French ),The earliest being 1830 others are 1870/ 74 and 1881 the styles on this trunk are not in those books.Which makes sense as this trunk has an earlier date. Certainly the way the artist joins the larger letter with a ring. The reason I bring this up is that the artistic style of the lettering could potentially tell the artist.Maybe there are other books with monolithic writing from this earlier time period. You may want to seek out a historian that is a specialist in monolithic writing. The symbolism is all over the place on this one ,two different yet similar painted sides with the tying of the ribbon, only 2 flowers in the basket, love birds etc......"...See Moresocks
