Need help updating exterior
Comments (13)You have a good roofline and "bones" to work with to amp it up a bit. I agree that it's difficult to see the door. If you could play that up, that would help. I've seen a similar exterior updated on Flip or Flop, but I can't get the photos to load to find it. The house had that same concrete block out front. I don't live in California, so I'm not so familiar with the design. I suggest riding around to look at similar styles that have been updated and decide what you like/don't like....See MoreNeed help updating exterior of 80s home
Comments (5)I agree that painting your stone is not going to give you an updated look. I would either embrace it or remove it entirely. Your greatest impact is going to be in painting the stucco and trim, front door and garage door. All of those except front the front door should be the same color. I would recommend picking a warm gray or taupe color out of the stone. This will both downplay your stone and bring the house into a more contemporary pallet. For your front door I would consider a dark rich color. As K Lawrence said, go big with the light over the front door; perhaps something with simple lines on a bracket. As far as painting the brick, I like your brick, and would try fixing the color of the stucco and trim first and see what you think. But this is also a house that wouldn't look bad with the stucco, trim, and brick all painted the same color....See MoreHelp!! Need update on Exterior
Comments (13)A neutral gray will look best IMO. I don't see any reason to use a metal roof above the garage. The house is pretty chopped up visually already. I would not add another material. I would give some serious thought to eliminating the arched windows and bays over the garage. Should you decide to paint or limewash your brick, Romabio makes the best product for this application. If you attempt to use acrylic paint on brick it will peel off. Maybe your home could be adjusted to look more like this....See MoreNeed help updating exterior of childhood home
Comments (1)That tree nearest the front door should probably be taken out. Match the siding color to some of the brick. Maybe the darker chocolate, much like what the trim is now. The house will appear to be larger if it is not outlined in the contrasting trim. Perhaps one of the Photoshop gurus here will help you "try on" colors. The biggest update, IMO, would be removal of the ALL gravel and rock; replacing it with pretty landscaping. The right landscape plan will lead people from the drive to the front door....See MorePPF.
