How Consistently Wet does new plantings need to Be

Just got my CK order in. I'm sure it was =well watered= for transplant but might as well ask since I noticed the tops on some of the pots had quite a bit of algae/moss of some of them. I don't think it was developed due to wet potting medium/dark from transit since it was only 4 days in transite

Anyhow, either growing conditions at CK nursery (pots placed too close together, too little light) and or simply Very Consistent wet conditions. Which alludes to my NEWB question. Just short of well draining, well watered, is consistent fairly very moist soil preferred ? Some pots had a light coating but some others, it was like a mini crust of algae ontop
