Do single trunk shrubs grow faster than multi-stem?

Hi everyone, I have a couple of questions regarding to pruning young shrubs and standardizing them to make them look like a small tree for aesthetic purpose and to keep the area clean.

I want to know if shrubs with a single trunk and less limbs grow faster than multi-stemmed after you chop off all the others from the base or is there not much difference?

Will they divert all their energy growing taller and leafing the top or will they push their energy growing back to being a bush from the base?

Is it healthier to do this?

Thanks
