Laundry closet drain

Buddy D
last year

Hi Folks,

House was built in 1997, we had a laundry area installed on the 2nd floor of the home. They installed a floor drain which I recently inspected, access is from the laundry only. It appears to be a variation on a shower drain, however, there is a copper tube (overflow?) that seems to handle the runoff. It will fill up to the copper if I pour water into the drain but the copper seems to be "doing it's job"...Not that I am a plumbing expert, but I have never seen this setup/configuration. I am very wary of shoving a plumbing snake down the pvc and making things worse?! I don't believe the "drain" is clogged but...

I'd love to hear from anybody who can enlighten me.

Thank you in advance!

Buddy
