Did anyone else buy Peach Blossom from BB?
Comments (4)Well, Now that you ask that question and I think about it, I haven't had much success getting several of the smaller flowers to grow many healthy green leaves let along bloom again! Now, don't go by me since I don't have all that many smaller flowered bulbs, just Emerald, Graffiti, Joker, Lemon Sorbet, Trentino, (which never bloomed) and Green Dragon to name a few off the top of my head. But, on the other hand, I have two Mistys that plumped up considerably this summer,as well as Lilystar, Amoretta and Neon Rose and the few cybisters that I had, (I bought a few more this season) other than Emerald, also plumped up considerably..so I guess it's too early to predict doom and gloom for these small flowered bulbs. It will be interesting to hear what others have to say on this matter..You may come away from this discussion with several smaller flowered bulbs that are good doers for most of us. I don't know whether Jewel is considered a small flowered varieties, but my bulb just about doubled in size. Donna...See MoreAnyone else loose hostas
Comments (21)Ha ha, Paul! The cowboy roping theme wasn't exactly what I was thinking when I read the title. ;) Okay, so since others are listing their losses, here's the list of mine (P for potted, G for in ground): Andrew (P) Blue Lollipop (P) Cameo (P) Change of Heart (G) Cherry Tomato (P) Chirp (P) Country Mouse (P) Dragon Tails (P) Faith (P) Hope (P) Irish Luck (P) Itsy Bitsy Spider (P) Jack Of Diamonds (G) Lakeside Dragonfly (P) Lucy Vitols (G) Moonstruck (P) Peanut (G) Sara's Sensation (P) Spartacus 1&2 (P) Teeny Weeny Bikini (P) Tokudama aureonebulosa (G) Tropical Dancer (G) White Dove (P) Most of those that are minis were in the ground until I moved them into pots in August last summer, and the dang squirrels kept digging them out of the pots. I should have put them all back in the ground, they might had fared better. Oh well. Such is life. If Lakeside Paisley Print and Lakeside Midnight Miss don't come around, they may too be added to the list. Empress Wu hasn't come up either, she had a couple of eyes that looked like they may do something, but now it looks more like she's a goner as well. Comments (52)We re about to hit the 7 month mark of no stove, with another 2 months until permits get approved for propane. Demo was in Nov, our punch list is long, our stove is in but not hooked up, our venthood does not work, parts of the counter have been missing for months and I need to paint so much it is overwhelming. I have painted approx half of what needs doing (the entire interior, minus our sons' room needs doing, including painting stained moldings and window trim and new primed window trim and moldings). Then, I get to finish a small section of exterior and paint the garage door. Once the interior is painted, and money allows, we need to rip up the dr and new den floor and put down new wood floors. We need to rip up our new kitchen floor for another one to be determined. Then, the backyard that got chewed up by machines will need fixing and we need a new fence (old ugly one had to get half torn down in the process). I expect to get the interior done in approx 4 months and the rest by Spring. We'll be right around the 1 year mark, if we are lucky! (I am not even thinking of how long until the bs....)...See MoreAnyone else have bad luck buying perennial plants from Burpee?
Comments (43)A bit more on the supposed evils of Burpee, lambasted as "cultural vandals" for deceiving poor Dan Hinkley and running Heronswood into the ground. It turns out that after a few years, Burpee concluded the "experiment" wasn't working and offered to sell the place back to Hinkley and Robert Jones for less than half what they'd been paid for it ($5.5 million). They refused. Apparently they were no longer interested in running Heronswood, and an opportunity to preserve the jobs of its workers was lost (wonder if any of those employees ever shared in the $5.5 million bonanza). So I find it difficult to sympathize with either of the major parties to this mess. Burpee was hoping to cash in on the cachet Heronswood had with gardeners to boost their plant business. Hinkley and his partner got to cash in, which was their right, but it was never a realistic expectation that a specialty place like that appealing to a limited group of devotees could ever be "taken national" (if that stated goal of Hinkley's ever existed). Too bad it didn't work out (in its last years before the sale to Burpee I'd noticed that Heronswood's offerings for some perennials I coveted had been markedly scaled back, for instance its once-massive selection of asters. Apparently Dan lost interest in maintaining varieties that resulted in only a handful of sales every year, just like Burpee). http://gardenrant.com/2012/07/the-story-ends-well-for-heronswood.html http://www.gardencentermag.com/article/heronswood-nursery-auction/...See Moredjacob Z6a SE WI
