The icon has two fans (well, 4 since it's a double:)). Each oven has an exhaust fan, which is actually pretty quiet and a convection fan which does stay on the whole time you are using a convection feature. The convection fan turns off when you open the oven, though. My oven has an issue with the locking mechanism for the bottom oven. It keeps saying it's locked when it's not and makes a beeping sound when I open the bottom oven. It has something to do with the lock motor and the central computer board. Since the oven was purchased at the end of June and I became aware of the problem when we moved into our new house in September. They tried several things, were on the phone with Electrolux tech support and finally said that it just couldn't be fixed. That's the story in a nutshell.

I made two vegetables sides this month that I thought were really good. Both are easy to make, don't take a lot of time, don't have lots of ingredients, & taste great. Muffin-Pan Potato Gratins 3 to 6 servings 2 medium-sized Russet potatoes, very thinly sliced 6 tablespoons heavy cream coarse salt and freshly ground pepper Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Heavily coat 6 standard muffin cups with unsalted butter. Place two slices of potato in each cup and season with salt and pepper. Continue to add potato slices, seasoning after a few slices, until the cups are filled. Pour 1 tablespoon heavy cream over each cup. Bake until potatoes are golden brown and tender when pierced with a knife, 30-35 minutes. Run a knife around each gratin. Place a baking sheet on top of the pan and invert to release the gratins. Flip right side up and serve. Martha Stewart Living Zucchini Cakes 4 servings Old Bay seasoning added to these vegetable cakes makes them taste a bit like crab cakes. These cakes are lighter and more tender when made with fresh breadcrumbs. Place a day-old baguette in a food processor and pulse until fine crumbs are formed. For a quick sauce, mix some chopped fresh herbs (such as chives and dill) and lemon juice into mayonnaise. 3 cups coarsely grated zucchini 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs (from a baguette 1 egg 2 green onions, thinly sliced 1/4 cup diced red bell pepper 1 1/2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1 tablespoon mayonnaise or plain yogurt 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, for frying 1 teaspoon butter Place grated zucchini in a colander; sprinkle lightly with salt and let stand 30 minutes. Press with paper towels to remove as much liquid as possible. Zucchini should be fairly dry, and you should have about 2 cups. Place zucchini and remaining ingredients (except oil and butter)in a bowl. Mix well. Form into 8 patties the size of crab cakes. Chill. Heat oil and butter in a skillet. Add patties to skillet and cook on both sides until browned. Drain on paper towels. www.relish.com Notes: I made a half recipe which made five nice-sized cakes. Instead of fresh bread crumbs, I used half panko and half dry bread crumbs. I did not add red bell pepper; diced celery or shredded carrot would be good substitutes. I didn't make a sauce. Still good flavor & easy to make.

I've tried them, and since they always are ugly and take up too much counter space I've always gotten rid of them. It kills me because there are so many things I put in the microwave that would be so much better in an oven, but I just can't heat up the whole oven for small things. I did just check out the breville TO and have now added it to my amazon wishlist. Maybe I'll try it again in my new house. Maybe. Why can't someone design a pretty one that I wouldn't mind having out?!?!?! I cannot wait to pick out a new stand mixer in a pretty color to display on my counter. Jenna - I dont think I could give up my micro...My SO cannot (read: will not) cook to save his own life. Okay...so I think he could probably figure out how to heat a bowl of soup on the stove. BUT I guarantee he would: - leave on high - walk out to the garage - never stir - burn the bottom - eat only down to the burnt stuff - put in the sink and leave for ME to clean. - make peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I am not kidding. The microwave he can use....even if he does reheat a piece of pizza for 5 minutes and turns into leather! He doesn't use the TO either. The one time he tried he made chicken nuggets and tried to take the tray out without an oven mitt or even a rag! Upon getting a full grip - the pan and nuggets went flying. He picked them up started rinsing them off (Breaded nuggets!) No, no, no...beside the fact they are breaded...we have 3 cats. And I am not that good of a housekkeeper! (I made more) Sigh.
