How high should the backsplash go? Help!
Comments (4)We tiled the entire wall over the range, up to the ceiling (we liked the look). The hood went up (had to, to measure/cut the chimney; we needed to know the exact height/placement), then the hood came down again for the tile install, and then back up. if we ever need or want to change the hood, we won't be limited by the tile outline. Here are a couple of pics for you:...See MoreBacksplash advice - where should the tile go?
Comments (4)Thanks for all the input so far! Suzannesl, yes, don't worry! The floor (and the layers underneath!) is already up. We are planning on putting tile down, likely beige. We are raising the existing cabinets but I'm planning on refinishing them with the Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations, likely in Espresso, and adding brushed nickel hardware. Hmm, interesting comment on the mix of colors - I didn't think about that and will have to take another look....See MoreHow High Should We Go With Our Backsplash?
Comments (27)I completely agree with you, jerzeegirl. Isn't the whole point of a backsplash to protect the wall behind the countertops? I think it would look even siller to have that much counter hanging out there past the cabinets and backsplash. But I also do think it isn't very good design to have the top and bottom cabinets not line up when all you have is a stretch of wall on the other side or some other feature that acts as a natural stopping point. So I like the idea of adding shelves to the end of the top row of cabinets. Then there is no question about where to end the tile....See MoreBacksplash Photo of NOT all way up?
Comments (19)Hope this helps....Here's my mid 80's kitchen with tile. I did the full backsplash only behind the stove and ran one row of bullnose along the rest of the counter. Wallpaper is pretty neutral (except the border!) so it's a bit hard to see, but that's what's on the rest of the walls. We're in the process of remodeling in order to sell our home and so the Walker Zanger tile that I've LOVED for the past 24 years had to go last week. I was in a funk all day when we tore it up. Took down the wallpaper and with the lack of color in the room (granite now) we'll be tiling the full 18" of backsplash this time in order to try and inject a little life back into my formerly homey kitchen! BUT the single row of tile worked fine for me in a very busy kitchen for many years.... and definitely saved money at the time. Here's another old one.... sorry for the mess.... cooking Christmas dinner!! I think I was cooking with the liquor and not drinking it! :)...See MoreWendy H
