tile transition from shower wall to ceiling - need ideas!
Comments (16)It's a little late now, but if you'd centered the middle of a tile instead of a grout joint, you would've eliminated that skinny little piece on either side, and still stayed centered. That aside, it looks good so far! Ivette-- I'm getting an education right now with respect to balloon construction! The one thing that almost stopped us from buying the house was that back side of the house bows (I would guesstimate) about 6-8" from the middle to the two corners. When I first saw it, I thought the house was getting ready to collapse until someone explained that with balloon construction, that's SUPPOSED to happen! Boy didn't I feel stupid!! I'm learning, though!...See MoreWall Transition for Mosaic Tile Backsplash
Comments (9)Not sure what your question entails. Are you looking for a way of getting a finished edge on the tile, because it doesn't butt up to a molding, and there are no trim pieces for that tile? Then I think you can get metal transition strips to finish the tile edge. Schluter makes some. I know there's a woman on the bathrooms forum who did a contemporary bath recently using these metal strips, you can search that forum. If you're asking where the tile should land with relation to the cabinets/counter etc. that's a different question....See MoreCurved transition from carpet to tile without moldings
Comments (13)Many thanks :) - This is our basement. My daughter is moving back home after 6 years in college (have never experienced what an "empty nest" feels like - LOL ) - We are fixing up the basement for her - She is afraid that all tiles would be very cold. The entire basement has carpet for the last 24 years but the water came in through the windows during the last big storm so now we try to replace the "potentially can get wet" area with titles (about 1/5 of the entire basement). We try to make it look artistic .. hence the curve comes in the picture. " Because it's a berber carpet you may want to consider a vinyl snap in. " Will go to the local professional flooring store(s) and see if they have this. "The best bet would probably be to find a carpet workshop, cut the curve in your carpet, bring it to a pro and have them bind the edge. Install the pieces of tack strip right next to the tile, run the pad up to it and tack the carpet. You might even want to do the carpet first, considering how hard it could be to get it stretched perfectly to the right spot. Then tape the edge and cover the carpet while the tile is installed and grouted." Great suggestion - I will look into this. Any advices on the grout width and any other ideas with this curve thing are greatly appreciated....See MoreThoughts on backsplashes for 1905 Transitional Home's kitchen?
Comments (18)I have a 1928 registered historical house and I am so, so torn on the kitchen. It's a good thing that it's not happening for several years! My initial thought was something like this one. Maybe using those varigated green tiles (usually found on fireplaces) instead of white. I love this kitchen. http://www.houzz.com/projects/4299/ravenswood-manor Right now we have it in the unfitted style (budget!) and just paint for the backsplash. The sink is original from 1928, but the metal cab is from the 50's, and our stove is a Chambers from the 50s I have to say, we DID save and splurge on square-edge tiles for the bathroom and I am SO, SO happy that we did. We did the work ourselves and saved in other areas....See MoreAC inTN
