We have two new daylilies blooming in the greenhouse.

Sea of Cinders

Ultimate Design

We planted these little iris last year.

These are the first daffodils to bloom. A clump of iris is in the background.

It's gotten cold here again. The weather is reminding us that it is still winter.

Beautiful flowers! Thanks for posting. We have dafs as I posted elsewhere, but the cold weather over the coming couple of weeks will polish them off. Everything will be confused as well. Nice that you have a greenhouse!

I love Jack's Mischief! my very favorite here, but I do like Carpathian Magic too. Too bad it does not do that well for you. I like the seedling too. I am glad you pictured your clivia. I have a pot in bloom and been wracking my brain trying to remember what those are called.

I finally got a picture of Samsational that shows its color accurately. It is one bright flower. I imagine it would be 'all the rage' if it were widely available in the U. S. Bob wanted Sun Giant because we saw it in Trimmer's garden in Florida. It was 4 feet tall with very large flowers. The flowers are large here too, but it obviously doesn't like our climate much. Tech Colors has finally bloomed for us. This plant started out the year very puny but seems to be making a comeback. The first Tech Colors we had turned out to be something else. Finally we have the right one. The Dentist did so well last year and then this year started out puny also. It seems to be doing better. This is it's normal time to start blooming We didn't have time to take pictures of many seedlings, but we did take a few. Here is the seedling Queen for today. It is Susan Ruoff X Carrots Forever. As you might imagine, Bob loves this one. I might have shown this one before, but it makes me happy so I'll show it again. It is Sonoran Desert Rose X Crimson Stories. Julia, Sea of Cinders has not proven to be reliably hardy here. We have lost over winter two plants that were planted in the ground. Luckily for us, Sea of Cinders produced several prolifs the first year it bloomed. Now we now have the potted one and one planted outside in a protected location (on the south side of the garage). Both are doing fine, but we fear a bad winter will kill the one outside. I think it's Bob's absolute favorite daylily but I don't think it is available anywhere. Extreme Tangerine, one of our intros for 2021 is out of it (crossed with Horns, which is hardy here). Extreme Tangerine is more orange than red orange but it seems to be totally hardy. Houzz won't let me post a picture of Extreme Tangerine.

The seedlings weren't quite as exciting as they were yesterday. Here are a few that caught our eye. Bob said this one is seedling Queen. It is Stellar Stitchery X Cherry Pie a la Mode. The flower is actually whiter than this picture shows. My new phone takes better pictures in cloudy or shady conditions than my previous phone, but the color is still a bit off. Unfortunately, This three year old daylily is producing terribly short scapes. Still it got a blue ribbon, which means we will move it to the observation bed for further evaluation. Who would think that Wolverine (pink) and Love All Serve All (rose red) would produce a yellow. Just on a whim, I crossed Daddy's Heart with I Don't Kid (I do that sometimes). Daddy's Heart is a great grower and a good seed setter and I Don't Kid is a terrible grower. We got a bunch of the the nicest looking plants with good scapes and absolutely boring flowers. This is probably the nicest one of them. The color is more melon, not so yellow. It also got a blue ribbon. This one comes out of Bob's Fulva lines. This is Fulva 'Korean' X Crimson Stories. Coooool! So happy to see your blooms. Things are just getting started here…..finally have daffodil foliage peeking up.

We lucked out with the weather here, just rain and some slush. 20 miles north of here there is 8” of snow……highs will be on the upper 30’s here this week.

Beautiful pic of Sea Of Cinders and Ultimate Design. Here the Crocus are blooming, Daffs are budded and the tulips are still growing. I just planted all the bulbs last fall.

I see that Ultimate Design is a Maryott. We are still ahead in spring development here, but below-normal temps for the next five days will decrease that lead.

I've always liked the color on Sea of Cinders. Ultimate Design has the perfect form I have come to expect from a Maryott daylily.........My Tet E Tete small cupped daffodils are having their spring conversation now and the Henbit is just beginning to show it's purple flowers in my yard. The weeds always lead the way to spring...........Maryl
