We have two new daylilies blooming in the greenhouse.

Sea of Cinders

Ultimate Design

We planted these little iris last year.

These are the first daffodils to bloom. A clump of iris is in the background.

It's gotten cold here again. The weather is reminding us that it is still winter.

Lovely to see blooms this time of year, Nancy. I love Sea of Cinders, of course, My kind of colors. Ultimate Design iis looking really good too.

Beautiful flowers! Thanks for posting. We have dafs as I posted elsewhere, but the cold weather over the coming couple of weeks will polish them off. Everything will be confused as well. Nice that you have a greenhouse!

Julia, Sea of Cinders has not proven to be reliably hardy here. We have lost over winter two plants that were planted in the ground. Luckily for us, Sea of Cinders produced several prolifs the first year it bloomed. Now we now have the potted one and one planted outside in a protected location (on the south side of the garage). Both are doing fine, but we fear a bad winter will kill the one outside. I think it's Bob's absolute favorite daylily but I don't think it is available anywhere. Extreme Tangerine, one of our intros for 2021 is out of it (crossed with Horns, which is hardy here). Extreme Tangerine is more orange than red orange but it seems to be totally hardy. Houzz won't let me post a picture of Extreme Tangerine.

I thought Electric Snake would be registered as a spider, but it's not. Still the petals on this one are some of the narrowest in the garden. It's not often you see a five way poly. This is Evermore Greatful. Last Man Standing is a great grower for us. It's scapes are taller than its registered 26 inches tall. Please forgive the hand. Another scape was pinching the big bloom on Orange Skies. Raggedy Man is one of our favorite lates. It just started blooming. We dabble with hybridizing striped daylilies. This is Ruby Grandeur X Explosion in the Paint Factory. I would prefer to cross two striped ones, but since I have only one tet striped one, I am force to cross it with solid color, hoping to see some stripes. The bottom flower shows some broken color. We will have to watch this one to see what it does. That's all for today. Nancy

With all the yellow/orange seedlings you have created it's good to see some pretty purples. I think your Snidely and Peek A Boo seedlings steal the show this time around, although I wouldn't turn my nose up at the yellow Fooled Me seedling if it kept the pinched effect. Oddly enough, although not my favorite form, the pinched petals appeal to me if they are symmetrical and the petals have substance. A lot to ask for I'm sure............Maryl

I want you to know Nan that I am a gardener, not a sadist. When our temperature went from 107 to 109 today (and more to follow for the next 10 days), I pulled all the pots of daylilies I could that were in total sun back to a place they will receive some late PM shade (from about 3-4 PM and after)............. Thanks for the further information on Muy Caliente. If it survives whatever mother nature throws at us this winter, I look forward to it next summer where hopefully the temperatures will be more moderate here (as in 90's).............Maryl

Coooool! So happy to see your blooms. Things are just getting started here…..finally have daffodil foliage peeking up.

We lucked out with the weather here, just rain and some slush. 20 miles north of here there is 8” of snow……highs will be on the upper 30’s here this week.

Beautiful pic of Sea Of Cinders and Ultimate Design. Here the Crocus are blooming, Daffs are budded and the tulips are still growing. I just planted all the bulbs last fall.

I see that Ultimate Design is a Maryott. We are still ahead in spring development here, but below-normal temps for the next five days will decrease that lead.

I've always liked the color on Sea of Cinders. Ultimate Design has the perfect form I have come to expect from a Maryott daylily.........My Tet E Tete small cupped daffodils are having their spring conversation now and the Henbit is just beginning to show it's purple flowers in my yard. The weeds always lead the way to spring...........Maryl
