Hi Scott, Yeah, I thought of that, but we sanded off sticky residue on a sub floor once, and it totally gummed up the sander. This residue stays moist due to the heat and water it is exposed to. DH said scrape it, but I am afraid of doing damage to the wood. I was hoping someone might have had some experience in a product or chemical that would remove the glue. Regarding the latex paint - I am thinking it won't hold up with all the moisture. Whatever we do, I really don't want to have to be doing it again the next year. I'd like it to last a few years. I told DH that I just want to put peel and stick vinyl tile over it - I was thinking we could even put it over the glue since we want it sticky anyway. And, I was thinking we wouldn't even have to remove the other vinyl. The only thing is that the deck is only 21" wide, and most tiles are 12" square, so we would end up having to purchase twice the amount of tile to cover it. Lynne

Thanks for the feedback. We love the bluestone look and color but can't find a suitable replacement. Pauster, what color travertine did you go with? We were thinking about it but haven't found the right color yet, and the synthetic products just don't seem as nice as real stone.

I don't think Limestone does well with pools, but maybe that varies by area and intended use (like winter temps, a salt pool, etc.).

Here in the UK in the garden centres you can find the very common hostas sold bare rooted in a plastic bag surrounded with a bit of wood shavings, a pretty picture on the outside hanging from a peg next to Dahlia tubers. In Holland the Dutch wholesale growers dig the hostas from the field, wash, dry and divide into single divisions. They pack them in boxes of 50 and then freeze them until they receive an order. They are delivered in this state with instructions to allow them to defrost completely before planting. From what I recall freezing was in reality holding at -3 C. A couple of years ago I germinated some Hosta seed in flats fairly late in the season. Come winter I left them in the greenhouse totally dry for around 4 to 5 months. Spring time I watered them and back they came. I'm talking really tiny seedlings with barely two leaves! The only point I'm trying to make here is the ability of this plant to tolerate all kinds of conditions during dormancy. This year I plan to take a few duplicate plants once they die back, remove all the media and leave them dry on a bench in the garage till spring. I want to see if they can survive and grow on the next season. Dave
