Help with 46' counter depth frig... planning remodel
Comments (15)Do go see them. I think that will help clarify for you. I don't remember the sides on the columns that well, but I am sure they are not finished. They are made to be installed between cabinets, but there may be other ways to finish the sides. You would also need to consider the side glides or anchors that are used for installation. I don't know, but it may be that a 3/4" panel on either side would be sufficient. I have seen Subzeros installed this way or with a small cabinet on either side -- to look like an armoire, basically. What is it that you want? Cooling space, a look, or just clearing more aisle space? What will drive your decision? If you just want to clear some floor space, Kitchenaid makes a counter depth that is 72" tall and has about a 25 cu ft capacity. It's 36" wide and gives you about the same storage as you get from the typical 42" built-in, but the shelves are deeper. Inches of width do not necessarily translate into larger capacity. If you want easy accesibility and easy veiwing, you may prefer the built-ins and the shallower shelves. You will get ease of use but not necessairly more room or a lot more room. And the looks are a but different. Anotehr factor might be what is expected in your neighborhood. And consider the scale of your room. If you have a smaller kitchen with 8 ft ceilings, make sure a large built-in won't be out of scale with the rest of your space....See MoreWhat Do You Think of this Frig Placement
Comments (7)Oruboris: do you mean the long wall between the DR and the Foyer? Or do you mean the opening where the little scribble is that should read "DR"? Or, the rectangle I drew in that I was planning uppers and lowers? As Rhome pointed out, probably the best spot would be further down that snack area, just above the DR opening and then the snack area oriented to the left of the frig. Maybe that's the way to go. Funny, that's where the frig was when we first moved into this house. Although the rest of the kitchen was different. I did think the open counter space would look more attractive on the south end. Although, if I sort of "frame in" the entire space with drywall, like a little nook, which I had been considering, it wouldn't really matter from a looks perspective where the frig was. In terms of how I would split the items, veggies, meats, poultry and any frozen items I would consider to be used for dinner would be in the cooking area. Butter, milk and some condiments, possibly drinks for dinner, would probably have to be duplicated. If I did move the frig down, might not be as big of an issue. Dinner will be in the room south of this layout, in the room with the fireplace that is not on this layout....See MoreHelp! Dying Dishwasher: Would You Recommend Yours? Why/Why Not???
Comments (60)I may just have a lemon with this current KitchenAid. I don't know, but I can tell you that the rusting has been extremely significant, and the repairs so far, very costly. But, it is so quiet that I have to put my ear to the door in order to see if it's on. I do love my KA French Door refrigerator with the freezer drawer at the bottom and no outside ice dispenser. No problems with that, other than the freezer drawer getting ice build up and clogging the drainage hole at the bottom occasionally. We also have a KA double wall oven, which is doing well still, with some recent repairs. This is year ten for all of them, and I am hoping the rest hold out for several more years!...See MoreI am looking for recomendations for a side by side counter depth frig
Comments (4)Yes, it absolutely would help to know a few more details. Available dimensions, budget range, desired features, and expected visual appearance all matter. We have a 36" SubZero all-fridge. We picked this model, as we have had great luck with SubZero before and they have a reputation of lasting for several decades with only minor repairs. They also have an air treatment system that works quite well at keeping food fresh for longer, and they are very good about chilling very evenly so that there are no unexpected cold spots. We like the interior organization. And we love that it doesn't have things like ice makers nor through-door appliances; those waste space and energy and are prone to breaking more frequently. SubZero makes counter depth fridges that can be made to look just like another cabinet, or there is another version of their fridges that can be built into a cabinet with a door that stands just proud of the front of the adjacent cabinets. If you have extra deep cabinets you can also recess the latter version back by a few inches and the door becomes flush with adjacent cabinets. But it won't look exactly like a cabinet door. It looks like an appliance. So, you have options here. Other manufacturers might not give you this choice. Usually, the less expensive models all require that the door stands proud, and the more expensive models have special hinges that allow flush mounting. Many people decide to put cabinet panels on these type of fridges, but you can also order them with stainless steel fronts. You typically need to buy your own cabinet pull for these type of installations; so factor that into the cost. Big fridge pulls can end up costing hundreds of dollars depending on the design that matches your kitchen. And that's really the major downside here. It doesn't get much more expensive than SubZero. So, that's why I said we need a budget range in addition to the list of desired features....See MoreHU-819939536
