Lois - It is realy everything I can do to keep from ordering "something" this year. I am not moving or at least I hope not but Dad is not well and I don't know what is up for the coming year. Many changes I suspect. I am only getting my reserves and some annuals. I doubt that I will have even tomatoes this year unless I grow them on the deck. We are hoping to buy this old house from the rest of my sibs as we are all part owners. I have been here taking care of Dad for 5 years and the flowers are mine! We would like to rebuild and design my new yard/gardens. As it is I will have to move a lot of my Peonies and Irises in order to build or I will be sending a lot of you people some very expensive plants if we don't stay here! Maybe I will rent a field or two. :) Till then, all my babies are in holding beds. :D Ginny P.S. Anyone know where crazygardener has been?

Well I'm NOT a blue person. Indoors I have NO blue. My husband doesn't understand this. I have no idea why I feel this way. Outdoors things are different! I have a blue/yellow/white garden bed which I love. Yes, delphineums, catananche, campanulas, baptisia and more, are mixed with trollius, coreopsis moonbeam, peony Claire de Lune and low growing white clematis and aquilegia. It is a big mix and wouldn't be any fun at all without the blue! There are loads of clematis that are purple or blue/purple, but also some very nice blues I think. You do get into the question of "what is blue?" My husband and I think this could well be a male/female issue! "Victoria Blue" Salvia is the closest thing. I use it a lot. It is such a heavy, long bloomer, and about one in twenty of them will survive winter here. Just wish I could predict which would survive so that I could save seed from those alone and perhaps work up a more hardy strain. By the way, the Hydrangeas in Memphis, Tennessee are incredible. After reading all the posts, I now understand why some gardeners prefer the color. And I have to say that I've never met any gardeners whom I would consider snobbish. It's a little too purple and doesn't look right as a "patriotic" design. I will probably tear out the red and white and keep the "blue" (purple) since it seems to like this desert heat. Someone mentioned black flowers, and I remembered seeing black pansies in the most recent Burpee catalog. They're a beautiful velvety black with a spot of yellow in the center. I have a little one transplanted late last Fall after letting it languish in a poor setting and am anxiously awaiting its bloom.

I really much prefer plants that I can divide rather than casting seeds :-) I made a mistake of planting a rose campion that was given to me (told it was a lamb's ear), and now I have close to 50 of them coming up in my walkways! LOL I'm finding a lot of variety in hellebores, and there are some major differences in them. BHG said they can get up to 3' wide and 8' tall?! https://www.bhg.com/gardening/plant-dictionary/perennial/hellebore/ In this area, I think that I'd rather have colorful shrubs as the backdrop (would be fine if it's not flowering), then I could place the hostas, coral bells, and a shorter variety of hellebore in front of them. I have Ever Red Fringe Flower shrubs in the front yard (in full sun), but I'm reading that they do fine in part shade? I'm kinda thinking about rooting some cuttings and put them back there... the leaves would give the color I want, and it's free :-)
