Paradise Backstage... slightly slower than its relative, the notoriously slow On Stage. the plantagineas are all slow for me... plain, Aphrodite, and Ming Treasure. re: others mentioned... Orange Marmalade, Gold Standard, and JOTN are not particularly slow... in fact, Orange Marmalade is one of the first "eye-catchers" to unfurl with bright colors. Stained Glass is slowish, but not last to emerge. Patriot is on the slow end, but not slowest. Those big purple eyes start coming up, but seem to take quite a while to open up. same with almost all the Tokudamas (including Bright Lights and Blue Shadows)... slower than median, not on the far end of slow - but if they make the original list, I guess I'd include Blue Shadows... I say almost, becasue the yellow Tokudamas, while very slow to grow, are not as slow as the other to emerge...

Thanks, Faye, you are all heart! HAHA. Something about Regal Splendor reminds me of Sagae, perhaps its that energetic flip of the margin area, but it has a lot of energy IMHO. I like the look, that is certain. Okay, I feel my arm twisted, it goes on the list for maybe a short order that needs beefing out. I still have one to place, with Van Wade. And a make-up order to replace the Sugar Snap that my doxie Dolly ate (and then threw up), from the Solberg new arrivals. Then just because I think it is absolutely beautiful and to me shows what a little white back DNA can do for a hosta......even if it turns out not to be a hypoleuca progeny.... Princetta on the left, Joanne Johnson on the right....both of whom came from Van Wade. I love Harry. He has red legs and an opaque white back on his leaves....wearing a white dress shirt I suppose since has two belle femme on his arms.

[the problem being.. of course.. prior to dna testing nobody could verify such.. and now its cost prohibitive] Lamprologus savorii 'Savorii' --- would be a 'named' .... hence the quote marks ... SELECTION of said species.. named for some distinct attribute... thereby making it not genetically the same as the species ... your example with plantiginea... is centered around the 6 inch flowers .. which to my mind is the defining characteristic ... and no seed progeny ... THAT I AM AWARE OF ... holds that trait ... so if you found a field of them.. and some had the more typical 3 to 4 inch flowers of seedlings .. they would not be plantginea the species .... that is all i care to know about the international nomenclature rules.. in regard to hosta ... i am pretty sure George Schmidt has link to all his research at the hosta library ... if i recall .. he has reduced many of the previously thought species to cultivar status ... but its been years since i read up on that stuff.. its not quite the kind of thing you go back and read for enjoyment.. lol ... ken ps: are you sure on china for plantiginea??? .. its such a warm zone plant.. i was thinking maybe further south .... or was les just working off the top of his head ... as i usually do.. lol..
