Marvin Ultimate Weatherstripping Color
Comments (9)I have the same problem, my newly installed Marvin Ultimate casements are the dark Evergreen color. They have BEIGE weatherstripping and when I first looked at them from the outside, I thought, "What is that light-colored line around all the windows? It looks like dust needs to be cleaned out of the corners." Upon inspecting it closer, I saw it was the beige weatherstripping. The look of the windows from the outside is awful. At the lumber store where we purchased the windows, their display window is in the Evergreen color and has black weatherstripping, which looks great (the weatherstripping is basically invisible against the Evergreen color). When ordering the windows we were never asked about what color weatherstripping we wanted. I think the lumber yard that placed the order should have known not to let it default to beige. They order the Evergreen color all the time (we are in the north "cabin" country.) In my opinion, Marvin should not have the weatherstripping color default to beige in the first place. They should make it necessary for the orderer to actively choose the color (mistakes like this would be avoided). The beige color bothers me enough to want to have it replaced in the field with black. However, I do not think I should have to pay for that to be done. Marvin should have known better, too, and they should take responsibility, as well. I am sure if they would have double-checked with the person that placed the order, it would have been changed to the more appropriate black color. I will be checking with my contractor about this problem....See MoreMarvin Ultimate wood interior/aluminum clad exterior
Comments (6)Hmm, but do they last? I had not realized that the warranty was rather short. I just looked at the warranty on the Marvin site, and it has different time periods for different things, from 5 to 10 and up to 20 years. However, to pay all that money for a shorter, confusing warranty does not seem to make sense. I don't want to do this again in 10 to 20 years. Hopefully never again. So, I think I'm back to my Sunrise/Vanguard/Restorations questions. Is the Vanguard (http://vanguardwindows.com/doublehung_windows.html) window really better than the standard Sunrise (http://www.sunrisewindows.com/windows/double-hung.aspx)? Where do Restorations fit in? I did just get pricing for the Sunrise: 3 fixed picture windows, 1 casement window, 8 double hung windows, and 1 half round window. Sunrise Windows. Brazilian Pecan interior/Earthtone exterior. Glass is; Ultra U 12 with argon gas. Quote totals include all labor, materials, options, and all clean up. $10934 How does that sound? This company does not intend to replace the brick molding. Is that OK? (The house is 20 years old. From what I've seen, the brick molding looks OK.) My city requires a permit, but some contractors are saying not to bother or I should get it? What do you folks say is the best practice on this?...See MoreMarvin ultimate vs Kolbe & Kolbe vs Peachtree
Comments (15)The window order came in on monday less than four weeks from ordering altho 8 windows are on back order not sure which ones. I am assured by next Wed. latest. We are having the dealer store them for a couple weeks until roofing is finished we have been having major rain delays. From what I could see of the windows in the warehouse they are beautiful. I am regreting the unfinished interior as I will have to prime and paint. I will post pictures if I can figure out how to do it. This is after I track down the dupont flex flash and make sure the installers know how to use it. We have used Zip-Panels for exterior sheathing and are wondering if we should have used tyvek instead. All of this is so installation intensive and since I am at the mercy of the installers... Thank you to all who have posted to help my decision....See MoreMarvin Ultimate Caement vs. Integrity
Comments (1)They will not look at all alike, the Ultimate is aluminum clad exterior the Integrity is Ultrex which is a pultruded fiberglass. The Integrity line was made to complement the Ultimate line as a less expensive line built to compete with te Andersen 400 series. There are really no custom sizes or options available for the line and the SDL would have no bar between the glass and the interior profile of the sash is completely different...See MoreBlake
