What if you painted the fireplace frame a darker color....I think the light wood frame.and the floor color clash.

Hi. Looking for some ideas for our fireplace at our new ski condo. We plan to put in medium brown hard wood floors and a neutral paint on the walls. It's not in our budget to do a stone fireplace but we are looking for ways to modernize it and cozy up the room. Ideas we are considering: painting the fireplace wall in an accent color? removing the red shelf and put a floating reclaimed wood shelf? both? Thanks, Erin

OK here is your board and batten concept around the fireplace even using the existing tile so you don't have to replace it. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube to see how to accomplish this by simply adding feature boards to the face of the drywall after you pop off the mantel. Geez, I spent half the 30 minutes straightening your photo and cleaning off all the writing. Think first before you start posting bad photos for us to work from.

Paint does wonders. There is also rambio limewash. Looks like paint but it allows the bricks to breathe I guess. Ive heard great things and plan on using it dor exterior brick. for my fireplace I primed the brick first with two coats of Kilz and then one coat of paint. such a huge difference it made. Our moms thought we were crazy to paint the brick. Now they are in awe and cant believe the transformation it made.
