I think guitar is too expensive, and so I would say the recorder, or some type of flute. I think it will be some sort of mouth blown instrument.

Second guess would be drums.

I too was thinking recorder because you can get them so cheap.

I googled it so i won’t say, but being somewhat ‘musical’ as is DH, I was rather shocked. At least the clue does not also say ’played’. I don’t see how anyone would guess this intuitively.
