Electrical Wiring Design Dilemma Kitchens

Pop Up Dilemma?

Any information on the pros and cons of these two different pop up outlets would be appreciated. There is this pop up offered by Hubbell: Hubbell RCT201NI Waterproof Pop Up Flush Mount Counter Outlet - Nickel – Kitchen Power Pop Ups. This popup is smaller and only has two outlets - one on each side.

The other popup is offered by Legrand: Legrand Wiremold Pop Up Outlet, Stainless Steel, 20A USB, Hardwired – Kitchen Power Pop Ups. This pop up is larger and also includes two USB ports.

There are other differences besides those mentioned by me.

I need to see where these are going . I really dislike anything in my counter top except the sink and mine has drainboard and the filtered water is mounted in there . I always design my kitchens with the required plugs in a narrow panel in the cabinet run under the counter . I honestly think water will get in there and water and electricity no the best of friens. So post a pic in a comment here and then maybe you will get some help.

The Hubbell meets 2020 NEC (passes a half gallon spill test) whereas the LeGrand only meets 2014 NEC (8 oz spill test); if you need a pop-up to meet code, then you may not have a choice. The Hubbell extends deeper into the cabinet.

I had to add the Hubbell pop-up on my countertop to meet code. I have a 1960s house with a 4 foot window above a section of countertop. Previously, there were no outlets along the window. The pop-up was the only viable solution given that I had already ordered cabinets and have a lazy susan in this corner.

The placement is less than ideal, but this was the place it worked without interfering with the lazy susan. I don’t intend to ever use the outlet as I will never put an appliance in front of the window and I have no plans to use electricity next to the sink. I may put a potted plant on top of it.

I can't help but see this not as a GW problem, but a problem with whoever designs your hardware's software. I use Firefox with the free Adblock Plus and Adblock Plus Pop-Up add-ons. I have no pop-ups whatsoever on GW: not even if I hover the mouse over the green words. (And no pop-ups anywhere else, either.) Of course, I'm not using an iPad or a smart phone, but a desktop and a laptop. Windows 7 on both (even the brand-new laptop). Not up-to-the-minute; not trendy; doesn't fit in my pocket; not Apple. But no pop-ups!

Yeah, it does, but you might get lucky. I don't have upward-spraying nozzles, but I do find the Hunter 15' adjustable spray nozzle does a pretty good job of clearing taller grasses as the spray angle is pretty sharply upwards. And you can change the angular opening to anything you want. You might be able to change out the problem risers with taller ones as well--most companies make 4", 6", and 12" risers.

@smiles33 @live_wire_oakIf your cabinetry has not yet been ordered, you can make allowances for below-counter outlets in the cabinets. You can also install angled power strips underneath wall cabinetry or even underneath base cabinet countertop overhangs. I recommend Hardware Resources' Task Lighting slim profile units for this. You can also install in-drawer electrical connections, but those can be risky because the movement of the drawer isn't the safest thing to be continually forced on wiring in the back. These sometimes will not meet the code requirements for outlets at certain intervals. Electrical is really something that is hard to retrofit after cabinets have been planned, so if you're already past that point, your options are limited. If you do choose a popup, Mockett has just recently released a beautiful version of the popup that Hubbell became so famous for, the short round style that is highly water resistant for kitchen applications, and I think Mockett currently has the best one one the market. It's not the original Mockett that's so tall, it is a new, much shorter one that is water resistant, the PSC103A/EE model, and there is also a version of this that is flush mount. You can get them as small as about 1 5/8" in height.

Dilemma mounting barn door track on wall architectural pop-out. Help!

Despite having already invested in the barn door option, I agree with other posters that a swinging door is the best option. The barn door track will look unplanned and out of place floating out from the adjacent wall. Door swing clearances are understandable concerns, but I still think it would be a bigger issue to have the floating barn track. Reduce the opening size to a stand door size (36" if you are worried about wheelchair, 30" if not.)will help with the clearances. On the flip side, it's really easy to take down the barn door later and just patch a few holes if you regret the decision.

No experience with either of those, but before I realized my cabinet maker can integrate outlets in the cabinets and hide them (!!!), I was looking at these. I liked that they integrated the countertop material to hide them a bit better than other metal options (but they are quite large).

I actually love a pop up in the counter top. You really can't ask a community. If they are going on your island top, ask yourself how often you spill a gallon of water: )

The rest depends your need, ( USB etc ) how big the island, and do the electrician and cabinet maker know your selection, placement etc..

We have the Legrand . I like to sit at the counter in the morning with my computer.
