Hope I didn't kill my first hoya
Comments (10)Hi Ann, I just bought a Lacunosa yesterday and for what its worth, I also just repotted(removed 90% of the old very wet EA Peat soil). I repotted it in the original 8" pot that it came in...I have done this with all the EA hoyas I ever bought. I know we don't live in the same zone, but I don't like the EA soil, and replaced it with a very fast draining soil. It will be living outside under an Oak tree 95% of the time. Our rainy season is in the summer(if we're lucky...I hope we get a lot of rain) we are in severe drought right now! I can't afford to leave it in that wet Peat soil getting rained on often, so I had no choice but to remove and change the soil. You and I will might be in the same boat, as I wasn't aware that Lacunosa's roots are sensitive, so I will be keeping a close eye on my plant also. This was w/out a doubt one of the hardest one to repot, very messy process, LOL... Mine was labeled "Hoya Snow Caps, Lacunosa Alba", its the speckled version of yours...Wally world special for $10. Good luck to both of us and hope we did the right thing? Here's a picture of mine after I repotted...Speckled Lacunosa...See MoreNoob Mistakes (You made when you first started growing Hoyas)
Comments (32)I really enjoyed reading this post! I'm probably guilty of buying ALL THE PLANTZ!! I started with a couple then a few more... Because I'm lucky to find so many different types in my area at reasonable prices I take risks in buying ones that may or may not do well here. I figure it's worth the risk. I had no idea how lucky I am to find such a variety, but it's rare to find a big established plant. Although I just passed on a 5 foot (on trellis) multi flowering carnosa because I couldn't fit it in the car... I have a couple of Graveyard hoyas, most I've replaced and trying again. (Or will if I find another one for sale) I don't think I'll get another lauterbachii again even though they turn up all the time. Mine grew fast and tall but died. Not sure if it was underwatering or the cold but as I since found out it grows huge with next to no chance of me ever seeing flowers here I really cant be bothered buying it again. Since joining this group and learning "if in doubt, unpot and check roots and/or chop" I haven't lost many plants, except poor polyneura that got cooked in the last heatwave :( (I bought a new one in case my cuttings didn't take but they did!)...See MoreMy First Hoya Flowers !! Comments (5)Thanks, it is really exiciting, I am thinking I need more hoyas....lol. They are pretty hard to find around here, so I have been looking for others with hoyas so I can get a clipping, I found one woman who is going to send me a couple. I love them, they are such beautiful plants, and the flowers are breathtaking. I cant stop smelling it....lol Tracy...See MoreStaging the living room - tell me if I'm on the right track?
Comments (27)jackieblue, the windows look fine from the outside. It helps that one is in the corner of an L and the other one on a longer wall. I'm not following your angled chairs or loveseat idea though. I think nosoccermom and Annie are right about the curtains. I tried that when we first moved here and it didn't look good, but there was a light switch between the left window and fireplace then too. Now that it's gone, it should work. I'll worry about curtains once I get the big furniture figured out. I like that plan too geokid. I'm not crazy about the path between the loveseats and little chair though. I don't think I'd be able to use a rug with that arrangement without having the corner of it in the way. And no, there won't be a tv in there. So far I've found two red loveseats on craigslist, one yellow one, and one that looks to be light brown. And tons of old plaid and florals. I like the red ones, except that they are red and most staging I've seen is done with neutral colors....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
