I need help with my kitchen wall color and my cabinet color!
Comments (4)IMO- While I agree with 82mainstreet about painting cabinets white and not expresso, I also believe you won't be happy unless the color combo pleases you. - First, what do you want to accomplish? Are you intending to live in the home for a long time? Or are you painting for resale? - If you are painting for resale, then classic white for your cabinets is your best choice. It has wider appeal. A future owner will find it easier to change the wall color than the cabinets. - If you are planning to stay in the house, you can be more personal in your color choices. - But be wary of fads, especially when painting cabinets. It is much easier to paint walls. From your photo, it looks like your cabinets are nicely finished wood. Personally, I wouldn't change that unless they are damaged. I would just update the wall color, but that is just my opinion. If you do paint the cabinets, don't be swayed by fad colors. I would still recommend white or maybe a pale cream. That way, if you get tired of your color combo in the future, you only have to change the walls to update the room. - Unless you are changing your appliances and flooring, very dark cabinets will probably make your kitchen feel overwhelmingly dark and warm. - Consider your lighting and how you want your kitchen to feel. Does your kitchen feel too warm or too cool when your work in it? - White will give your room a light and airy feel especially if paired with cool blues and greens. If that seems to make the room feel too cold, white or cream can be warmed up with a bright wall color like apricot, lime green or turquoise. Try looking through magazines for color combos you like...or look inside your own closet for colors that make you feel good....See MoreBeing Brave and Asking for Help Updating Queen Anne DR
Comments (52)Thanks Texanjana I thought you'd appreciate how lovely your DR is going to look with lighter walls and dark cherry furniture. The rug...she has a puppy and went out and closed the doors in the DR, but forgot to lock the swinging door to the kitchen. To her horror, her puppy chewed a little piece of the Persian rug in the corner. She called her rug man, (the gentleman that sold her the rugs) he picked up the rug and took it into NYC to be weaved. They wanted 1250.00 to repair it, but he got it down to 1000.00. It was a perfect repair, you can't tell which corner was repaired. Comments (36)I really like the fabric you have chosen for your curtains. Reminds me of a store we once had called Laura Ashley. -Well...I think you should find a gorgeous cream, thick white/eggshell and paint your kitchen walls this colour as it carries into you dining area (there is not visual break). It has to complement this area at the same time. All four walls in kitchen area white, so no accent wall. (Yes, this includes the wall we see that leads into the living room). -Go with that gorgeous darker of the two greens for your upper cabinets and white again for your lower cabinets. The standing cabinet surrounding the fridge can also be the same green, with your island remaining white OR be white, again with your island remaining white. Keep in mind your appliances are black. White ones would be best but another time. **When you paint your island white, keep the knobs black. This ties in with your curtain rod above the glass doors as well as your appliances. -Please, please buy the kit that allows you to get a granite look for countertops and apply to both cabinet and island countertops. -Since you will be in painting mode, I would recommend also painting out the living room the same white until you find a colour for it that allows the eyes to transition naturally from kitchen/dining to living room. It will feel like the Hamptons for a little while. My two cents worth....See MoreRenovating Newly Purchased Home - Flooring and Paint Recommendations!
Comments (1)These are my inspiration photos from a home with a similar foyer and living room. The paint color looks to have a bluish undertone to it so I’m not sure if it’s gray. I love the white trim and choice of flooring!...See Moregerdyp
