Deal of the Day @ Amazon- Insinkerator 63% off
Comments (2)Not as good a deal as they make it out to be, but a good deal. I mean really, $625 regular price?! I put two in my kitchen remodel two years ago. The one at my main sink died about 14 months after installation. The motor worked but one of the bolts that held the grinding plates in place sheared off and chewed up the interior. Insinkerator was great about handling it. Sent out a repairman pretty promptly and, based on my description of what happened, brought out a replacement GD so it was replaced same day. The tech that replaced it said he'd seen a problem like it before. The other one has been problem free as has the replacement....See MorePantry moths!
Comments (24)You guys are freaking me out!!!! I live in the South, but I've never had pantry moths. KNOCK ON WOOD!! I can remember my mom getting something she called mealy bugs in cornmeal or flour, but they were tiny little hard bugs. I hate pesticides, etc. inside the house. We have termite treatment and the perimeter of the property treated. We have very few bugs and I really think it must be the perimeter treatment. BUT NOW I am going to look in everything in my pantry!!! LOL I keep several items in the fridge since I don't bake often, but I have quite a bit in my pantry too. And the dog kibble!!! Will definitely check that. We don't freeze it first (but will in the future). It is however, in a plastic container that has a screw on type lid. Our house doesn't get humid, so maybe that is what is helping us. It's super insulated, but also we run our AC probably 8 months out of the year. Thanks Lukki for the tip about the boric acid - if I need to use something I would not mind that in the window sills. Having a little dog, we are very careful what chemicals, etc. we have out where she would be exposed. In the house and the yard both. Bugs do not generally bother me that much - but the thought of them in food - really creeps me out. LOL...See MoreAmazon has 25% off a bunch of Halloween chocolate
Comments (3)Well....I already bought mine from Costco a few weeks ago. I buy the large bags of various chocolate candies. Having company this week so I thought it would be fun to put a glass jar filled with candy in the guest room. I was LOOKING FORWARD to separating out the almond joys, my favorites. None! The assortment of candies this year does not include almond joy. Unbelievable. Lucille, it does include mini Reese's :)...See MoreName brand Engineered Wood Flooring vs Off brand??
Comments (7)I like to point out a simple fact. FLOORING is the MOST ABUSED 'finish' inside the home. The only thing that takes MORE abuse is the ROOF. If you have a $50K roof line, then feel free to spend roughly the same amount on the flooring. Roofs should last 25 years. That's why we pay so much for them. A floor (or finish on a wood floor) *should last the SAME AMOUNT of time. That's why we pay so much for them. Think of ALL the floors that do NOT make it 25+ years. They are all cheap. Carpets that are 25 years old are considered DISGUSTING. They are considered 'builder favourites' because they are CHEAP and EASY to install. That's why builders love them. Laminate floors (entry level to mid-grade = $0.79/sf - $1.99/sf) are 'disposable' floors and will offer 10 years before they look really bad. They are in the same category as carpet. Disposable floors that are cheap and cheerful...for a small amount of time. A low-end engineered hardwood ($4.99/sf at LL) is much the same as an entry level laminate. Your expectations should be 10-15 years....just like laminate. If you want a floor that will offer 25 years of service (wood floors can go MUCH longer but they need refinishing to do this = HIGHER GRADE = MORE MONEY) you need to work in a HIGHER price bracket. I like to ask people: How do you feel about redoing/refinishing your wood floors in 15 years time? For today's investment of $7/sf (not including labour) do you EXPECT more than 10 - 15 years? You shouldn't. That's entry level stuff. How about 'upping' the price to $12/sf? Would you expect 25 - 60 years worth of life? You should...because the $12/sf price SHOULD get you a wood floor that has the ability to be refinished AT LEAST once (20 years + 20 years = 40 years). If you purchase carefully, you can get 2 refinishes out of it = 60 years. A sand/refinish = $5/sf. Compare that to a 'rip out ($2/sf) and replace ($7/sf)' cost of $9/sf (not including installation). Now you really see the difference. How much did you pay for your roof? Going cheap on a roof NEVER works out. Now compare how much you are willing to spend on your floor. Going cheap on flooring is the same thing as going cheap on a roof....See Morelucillle
