Hosta Noid 2022 ...................We are not done yet
Comments (16)I had the same thought for Saija’s blue with round leaves as debra..Elegans.. Saija..does it produce lots of seed pods?.. old_dirt..I thought of Gold Drop along with Laurie and debra..I have Gold Drop but no great pics of it.. 2 pics of small volunteers.. in back..small green with white margins and a small green with ruffles? piecrust edges?..are both terms proper?.. then in front..a similar small green..I love both of the little green ones but the one in front is my favorite of the two.. it occurred to me that since these hosta are volunteers maybe they aren’t named cultivars?..does that seem possible?..I’ll leave the pics anyway.. is there a cultivar that they resemble?.....See MoreWhat not to do with hostas 2022 ...
Comments (24)deb most hosta buyers don't and won't do the research. i get that, as a hybridizer i spend alot of time picking apart lineage and genetic plusses and minuses. don rawson has done us all a big favor by making the hosta lists, so under sun tolerant you can find pauls glory, orange marmalade etc. http://www.hostalists.org/hosta_list_sth.php if you go to the library and look up forbidden fruit you can click on hugo phillips data, another great service. https://www.myhostas.be/db/view/Forbidden+Fruit there you can see forbidden fruit is a sport of orange marmalade. down a little further is ploidy, you can see 4-4-4, 4 stands for tetraploid in that layer of the hosta. ...a diploid will be 2-2-2 like i said, most people don't want to get that far into it. some of us hosta heads have alot of time on our hands in winter....See MoreHosta Best of 2022 ..........................
Comments (20)I've already posted multiple pics of two of my favorites - The King and Wave Runner. This sport from Sagae outgrows Liberty in less sun for me and always gets comments from visitors. In 2017 I bought a Sagae with the widest margin I could find at the nursery (it was still relatively narrow) and it quickly responded to being planted in the ground by getting ridiculously wider. You can still see a little bit of the Sagae being taken over by August of that year....See MoreHosta Yellow 2022 ............................
Comments (27)Pieter that one i sent to mark zillis lab 3 years ago, so solberg is selling it now its 'light the match' high priced the first year. i don't get any royalties on those. it has the substance of subcrocea so it will bleach. it works best in a pot which would be good for you. the os in the ground hasn't liked the 2 years of drought we've had so it has shrunk to half size. i relocated it. so i'm hoping it bounces back this year....See Moreold_dirt 6a
