I am sure there is no real difference, but on their website yes they are different sizes. I see pumpkins like that all the time in pick-your-own pumpkin patches. I like them, I think they are neat. I also have saved the seeds from these warty pumpkins, but the offspring weren't necessarily identical (as expected). One I grew this past year was slightly pinkish and had some pale vertical lines, but it was still about the same size and warty. They last forever too, I still have mine sitting on a table, it isn't drying or anything. I am sure that 99% of the time when you see these pumpkins they weren't grown intentionally (or bought at Siegers) and were the result of a pumpkin, gourd cross in the previous season. I find it amusing all the hype that Siegers is giving these pumpkins. They have them on their main page talking about how new and unusual they are, but they have been around as long as I can remember.

They look like jack-be-little pumpkins. If you aren't familiar with them they get to about the size of the palm of your hand. Probably not much bigger than they are there, but they will turn deeper orange. You need HTML image tags to post your photos. Just replace angry.gif with the URL of your picture. The URL must end in .jpg of .gif or another image extension. To get the URL you need to right-click on your images and select view image (when using firefox). For example one of your image URLs is: http://gallery.me.com/lenoreboak/100014/P7240475/web.jpg Just replace angry.gif in the sample code on the link I gave you with the above URL. That's a really nice looking photo gallery. I think you are using mobile me, correct? I know it is unrelated, but do you like it? Is it worth the $99 per year?

I don't mind the cylindrical shape. Nice to have some variety amongst the typically spherical connecticut field pumpkins. These are for my kids for jack-o-lanterns and the different shapes will make for some nice designs. I'll keep the post updated as they grow. Another interesting observation that may not mean anything is that this vine is the most active of the 6 with 2 pollinated and 1 pending fruits. The other vines either don't have fruit that have made it to flower or they have one pollinated or one pending. I've done my best to hand-pollinate the females but I've been battling a healthy population of bumblebees who are up and at it before I am.

Maybe powdery mildew? much more prevalnet than Downy mildew here.
