Something shallow since that area is tight near the bottom of the steps. A mirror would be nice to check yourself when you arrive and before leaving the house. Or a vertical piece of artwork.

I can't tell from the pictures how this space relates to the front door. If this is the only wall area where you can put a console, then that could be the answer. I like a console table at the bottom of the stairs to stage items to take up the next time I'm going up, and if it's the only table by the front door and you use the front door a lot you might put your keys, mail or phone there while passing through. I also like a mirror over an entry console. But if there isn't a need for a console I would put art there, either one large piece or two stacked.
