Best looking Wall Oven/MW: combination GE Monogram?
Comments (9)better looking is VERY subjective and what you like may not please my mother or a future buyer. Are you still playing "property ladder" and putting in something that you think will excite a prospective buyer? If this is you're personal residence, you plan to be there a while, get what you like and feel comfortable with. In my experience with kitchens in $$$$ homes there are 2 camps. 1 - people mentally check off that you have 2 ovens, 2 sinks 2 DW's, multiple fridges and wine/drink storage and they are highline brands or you don't. They don't really adjust their price upward because you have a Wolf or Miele. They usually adjust their price downward if at 2.5 million they see a Kenmore fridge and a White GEneric oven. the 2nd camp comprises the folks that recognize the really nice stuff but aren't really atune to exactly what it is (Gaggenau or Thermador) but can tell it's not Frigidaire - AND they love what you did. The flip side of this group hates that you picked a Thermador range and glazed vanilla cabinets with the Viking fridge. They'll rip it all out, dispose of it on Craigslist, and bring in their own designers to get what they think is good looking. Bottom line is you don't know which buyer is going to show up! It's all moot if you're going to be there for 10 + years as the stuff will all need remodeling anyway at that time. So, might as well get what YOU like and forget the masses. That said I think the Viking Designer series ovens are very clean looking (though I'm not a fan of them or their products) http://www.vikingrange.com/consumer/products/category_microcategory.jsp?id=cat30045 Miele's ovens + speed oven is a very clean look too, and has a great company backing them up. http://www.miele.com/products/benefits.asp?nav=21&cat=3&subcat=7&benefit=17 ***** middle of page ***...See MoreCombo Oven/SpeedOven vs. purchasing Oven and SpeedOven separately
Comments (7)We had a combo unit, and one did experience an early demise. We were a little annoyed with the extra expense of buying another combo unit however what we discovered is that would have been a deal compared to what actually happened. Nothing on the market at that time would fit the cabinet we had, so we needed to replace that tall cabinet. Matching existing cabinetry is difficult, and we were getting no help there. In the end, the dead appliance morphed into a complete kitchen remodel. This time, we're doing our ovens as separate units, and we're making sure that the oven stack is made with separate components, so that they could be unassembled and remade in another size. What we had before was one tall cabinet, floor to ceiling, that was impossible to alter without destroying it because of the way it was constructed....See MoreIs my kitchen too small for a wall oven/microwave combo?
Comments (19)I think your kitchen would look very crowded with an oven and microwave stack. The kitchen is small and the appliances are pretty big already. All the pictures you posted as of very big kitchens. If this were my kitchen, (I have a preference for wall ovens and microwaves), I would replace the OTR with a venthood and remove the cabinet on top of it. I would replace the two cabinets doors on either side of the range with glass door. You can use the existing door and add some glass or replace the doors completely. Replace the hardware on the cabinets You have a really good amount of counter top and I think some minimal changes will make the kitchen looks really fresh. I would get a range in this situation. Good luck!...See MoreGE Monogram vs. Thermador vs. GE Cafe 30" All Gas Range
Comments (2)I have a Bosch dual fuel range (slide in) that is about 1" away from the wall/backsplash. I have never noticed it sticking out until I read this and then went to look, lol. It does, but if I've never noticed it, it doesn't bother me. The range itself is about 2 1/2" out from the base cabinetry. But I know what you mean if you want the 24" deep Thermador look. Personally, I would invest in an integrated refrigerator, using money saved from the Thermador and/or GE. The refrigerator is a much larger appliance and it's "sticking out" is more obvious than the counter height range. ("Counter depth" refrigerators also stick out; only fully integrated are flush.) I have 18" between the range and the next full height bank of cabinetry which includes a flush Thermador microwave/convection oven. The cabinetry sticks out 1" from the countertop and 2" from the 18" base cabinet farther than it should, a custom construction error I don't want to talk about. But that would be about the same as the space between your refrigerator and range if both "stick out." That 18" is good enough for my small Keurig and that's about it. It also has wall cabinetry above it because I used a hidden Zephry Pisa undercabinet range hood, so I don't have the "open" look you'll get from your range hood. That 18" of usable space is the same, however. We don't cook much at all (I hate it). I've had a Thermador dual fuel range and now this Bosch. Years ago, when I did have to cook, I had GE Monogram wall ovens and glass cooktop. Other than much preferring the gas, I can't think of major differences between all of them, or being unhappy with any of them....See Moreleni_2
