Counter height bar stool question...

Can I ask a favor, please? Our counters go in next week and I'm having a really hard time finding the right counter height bar stool. I tend to learn towards the ladder back french looking ones with rush seats, but I am not sure if they will be too short (they all seem to be 24" from floor to seat.)

Can you please tell me how tall your eat-in counter is, and how tall the seat is of your counter height stool?

Our counter will be just about 36" tall and from past experience, 24" tall stools feel annoyingly just the slightest bit too short, even though it is what is considered part of the standard range.

FTR, I'm 5'5"

Our island countertop is 36.5, stools are 24. I'm 5'8. Seems comfortable to me. Could you add a cushion to bring the seat height up?

Our counter is 36.5 and stools are 25 inches. They seem just right to me. I'm 5'6.

Thanks for all the info. Sorry I wasn't clear mercymygft, 22" to the top of the frame. Wish I had your sales rep sas9! The salesperson I normally deal with was going on vacation and he told me I could place the order with anyone because they were not on commission. I didn't like the salesperson I was dealing with but did not want to be rude, so I placed the order with her. I probably would have gotten better info from my regular guy. I called the manufacturer and they told me I could have had the stools made anywhere from 24-30 inches. Sigh. They cannot be returned angela12345 because they were a custom order. On a positive note, I have been a regular customer of the furniture store for many years. They have taken the stools back and are looking to see if they can add some inches under the seat. If they can't maybe you can give me some pointers on eating at chest level:)

They are the Venetian - 24 inch stools. They are really comfortable and clean up nicely. I spent a long time agonizing over counter stools and I'm happy with them! They have a bar in the front and on the sides - it's a good position for a foot rest. They look great with the soapstone. Even though the soapstone is on the perimeter and the marble is at the island, I like it a lot. I didn't want to try to match the island. Good luck!

For us 24" was too low. I bought 26" high. A little harder to find but worth it. I mocked it up using a stepstool and box. Take the time to determine the right height. There are also some stools that come in 25", 26.5, 27, 27.5, 29". Our height ranges in our house from 5'5" to just over 6'.

When I was designing furniture before I retired, the barstools I designed generally had seat heights of 29", and there would be a foot rail 10" above the floor. All of our furniture was made to order, and so clients could order barstools with whatever seat height they wanted, and some people wanted 27" and some would want 25", but 25" was a low as I remember producing. We also made some with 30" seat heights, but the seats were soft and would compress significantly.

The company I worked for is no longer in business, and so this won't help you, but you could find barstools at a custom company and order them with the seat height you want.

We had two sets of barstools in Cathedral City - one for the bistro table and one for the bar, which had higher seat heights. I'm not there now, and so I cannot measure the barstools we still have, but we only have outdoor stools - one set is metal and came with the house, and the others are teak, which we had in L.A. I believe that they have 29" seat heights, but that is just a guess.

36 and 24 here. We are a tall family, though. Ballard has some options of 25 and higher, and is having a sale now.
